That time of year has rolled around where it's officially considered Relay season. Every spring, hundreds of people gather at football fields or inside gyms to walk around a track for almost 12 hours, maybe more to represent that "cancer never sleeps." Relay for Life is an event created by the American Cancer Society that raises money for cancer research and to help those who have cancer. I first joined the Relay for Life event planning committee three years ago and it was the best decision I could have made.
Through Relay for Life, you get to see how much you are helping people just by participating in the event. You provide support for those who are fighting and those who are brave survivors. You get to learn about the programs that the American Cancer Society offers for those who have cancer and see what a difference they are making in their lives. You hear stories of courage and the definition of hope is weaved through this event.
Relay for Life also helps you connect to those you have lost from cancer. When I Relay, I think of my Mom and reflect on what a strong, brave person she was. Relay for Life aims to honor those we have lost from cancer and work towards a future where cancer doesn't exist.
Relay for Life has a special place in my heart because you get to make a difference in people's lives and you get to see the differences that are being made as the American Cancer Society keeps advancing in cancer research and funding.
If you ever have the opportunity to Relay, trust me, you won't regret it.
