What Recruitment Is Really Like

My life may or may not be a hot mess at the moment, but at least we have new sisters!

What Recruitment Is Really Like

Recruitment is a busy time of year for sororities, Rho Gammas, pnms, and everyone else involved. Although it's tiring and stressful, the outcome is amazinggggg. We all go through the same position leading up and during recruitment.

1.) The Late Practices.

Staying up all night for practices is ROUGH and then coming back home to do all the homework thats due the next morning is even worse. And then be ready to do it all again the next day. At least we know we'll know the practices paid off when we look amazing during rounds. Just ignore me when I walk across campus looking like a zombie till I make up the hours of sleep lost.

2.) Learning/Practicing the songs.

Never in my life have I realized how hard it is to actually sing on the track with other girls and also to remember every word to a song. Hitting the notes and trying not to sound like a dying dog is harder than it looks as well, sorry if you catch me on a bad note. But now that I memorized a billion songs, look out for my mixtape.

3.) Making Conversation.

When meeting a stranger there're so many things to ask and talk about, you're literally going to have word vomit. The best is when you find something you both are interested in and talking forever. Hopefully, you guys like having your ear talked off.

4.) Having no time to actually have your life together.

Sorry not sorry to all professors that homework is getting done at 2 a.m. while half asleep all week considering my life is only sisters for the next week. But seriously, sorry to my stomach since there's no time to actually cook and a meal and eat throughout the day when I'm trying to get ready and look good for recruitment.

5.) Trying to look good the entire time.

I've been singing, dancing and talking for hours, chances are I'm not coming out of this pretty still. At least in the before pictures I look like an actual girl and not a sweaty gremlin.

6.) Finding a girl you love.

Then you start talking to a girl you instantly connect with you totally understand girl crushes, besides your one for Beyonce. It's as if you've known each other forever and you literally talk about everything.

7.) Waking up every morning.

Your legs may or may not fall off at this point but we'll just smile through and pretend were not dying. Our poor feet as well, whoever makes shoes definitely didn't plan for girls to in them for hours at a time. Just point me to the nearest masseuse.

8.) All the caffeine.

Never have I ever thought I've been so close to a heart attack. All the red bull and coffee consumed over this entire recruitment can not be healthy. My apologies to my blood pressure.

9.) All the pictures.

After all the work I've put into my tan, makeup and hair you know I'm getting about 1 million pictures. Hope all my followers on insta and all my Facebook friends like all my pictures for the next month from recruitment.

10.) FINALLY making it to Bid Day!

Nothing better than new SISTERS!!

Whose ready for round two next year!! (my feet sure as hell are not).

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.

1. You're tired of school food and have resorted to surviving off junk food and cereal.

2. Your financial aid/money is running out...and chances are it all went to textbooks and takeout.
