Christmas lights, presents, Santa Claus, and candy canes. Holiday cheer and the spirit of giving. December 25th, holiday shopping, and sledding. Aren’t these all things that remind you of the upcoming Holiday Season? But are these the things that really matter during the Holidays or are there other more important things to consider during this time?

Here are the things that really hold true significance during the Holidays:

Family can be together

Family. A family is a group of people that are close to one another and care greatly for one another. This means that family does not always have to be blood. It can be, but it doesn’t have to be. A family are the people that are the closest to you and mean the most to you out of the people you are surrounded by in your life. Family is so important during the holidays and to be with them during these special days is one major aspect to having a good Holiday. To be surrounded by those you love the most and gather together, no matter the distance apart, that is what the true meaning of the Holidays is right there. To separate the differences and come together in love and the most harmony a family can find is what the Holidays deeper meaning comes out to be each and every year.

Food

Let’s just be honest you can’t have any party without food. Food is a big attention getter for many people during the Holidays. From the sweet treats to the honey ham and for many adults the beverages are also a key to a successful celebration. Food is not the most important part of a Holiday by any means but it is a crucial part of celebrating it right and everyone enjoying themselves with their loved ones. Who can go a Holiday without their favorite Holiday food or treat? I know I can think of a few that I couldn’t live without this Holiday, but then again food is definitely a highlight for me, like some people during the season of the Holidays.

Spirit of Giving

To give is to share without the expectation of receiving in return. Giving is a big part of the Holidays and what it is all about. Presents and gifts for family and loved ones is a key to many celebrations during this time. However, the most significant part of this gift-giving is not receiving the gifts, but the giving of ones to others. The joy and excitement on one’s face when they receive the gift they have wanted all year is a gift within itself. To give the gift of happiness this Holiday is the thing only many people want this Holiday. Not to say it is bad to receive gifts either, but the real importance shines on the gifts that you can give to others, to show them the love and care that you hold for them and celebrate the joy of the Holidays with them, as well.

Time Spent Together and Memories Made

Every Holiday is an opportunity to create memories, traditions, and spend valuable time with the people you love in your life. Every day is not this kind of opportunity when you can get most of the whole family together, so remember this Holiday season to make it count and make an effort to show the ones you love the most that they are the reason for the season. Don’t waste a great opportunity to share old memories, make new ones, and laugh and smile together. Holidays are some of the times that are most remembered when looking back. Even though some families may be far away, arguing, or have difficulties this holiday season, try to make the most of it and remember the real reason for the point of the Holidays and why you take time out of your life to celebrate them. This may bring you back to seeing what is truly the most significant to you.

So Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and a special joy to all the other important occasions celebrated this Holiday. Just remember it doesn’t matter what you celebrate, it matters how to celebrate it. Make it a memorable Holiday filled with laughter, joy, and true love for everyone that surrounds you.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
