What Not To Do If You Meet A Celebrity

Learn from the mistakes I made while meeting the cast of 'The Vampire Diaries.'

What Not To Do If You Meet A Celebrity

This past week, my roommate and I had the privilege of meeting some of the cast of "The Vampire Diaries." On Wednesday, we heard through the grapevine that the show was going to be filming the series finale in Covington, Georgia. So, (super)naturally we hopped in the car on Thursday and sped to “Mystic Falls.” We ate at Mystic Grill, got on the set and camped out waiting not-so-patiently to meet some of the cast. To our surprise, our dreams came true. But heed my warning, readers. Do not do as we did.

1. If you see a celebrity outside, do not act like a fool in public.

While dining at Mystic Grill, Damon, Stefan, Caroline and Matt casually began filming just outside. We jumped out of our booth and sprinted to the nearest window as we were not allowed to exit during the filming of scenes. Unlike us, you probably should not press your face against the glass or obviously drool on the window in the plain sight of celebrities.

2. If you cross paths with a celebrity, it is probably best not to hit them.

After my roommate and I finished eating at the grill, we decided to scope out the area where they were filming outside. As we began to exit the restaurant, Matt Donovan entered. My roommate was so taken aback by our crossing paths with the famous Zach Roerig that she hit his arm in surprise. Keep in mind, this not so gentle slap was definitely a "love tap." However, Roerig was not very appreciative. He looked at her in utter shock and then at me with the same surprised face. Readers, you probably should not do this if crossing paths with a celebrity. We did, although, get the chance to take up 20 seconds of his precious time and capture his full attention. I even got the chance to ask him for a picture, but he respectfully declined.

3. If you ever get the chance to talk to a celebrity, talk back.

My personal favorite from the adored show is Damon Salvatore (as played by Ian Somerhalder). It turns out that Somerhalder is an extremely caring and kind individual, unlike his character Damon. After he was done filming for the night, he took the time to speak with the neurotic fans who had been waiting all night for this chance. We caught news that he was outside the Grill conversing with fans and we didn’t even think twice before running out the door. When I finally came face to face with my favorite celebrity, I had no words. I mean, really. No words. I just stood there in front of Ian Somerhalder with my mouth wide open and eyes full of surprise. Readers, you should probably not do this if you want to make any sort of impression. Somerhalder was overly polite and grateful to his fans, despite the fact we were all acting like fan girls. He thanked us all for coming out and watching the show. He even added that he loves all of us. You can deduce that after this encounter, I was over the moon.

Despite our embarrassing actions, the three hour drive was most definitely worth it for us. We absolutely love the show and the cast. I can only hope that people can learn from our wrongdoings and perhaps have better luck when meeting celebrities if given the chance.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
