What Not To Do At A Music Festival

Festival season is coming, be prepared.

What Not To Do At A Music Festival

With music festival season coming in full swing, there is a lot of excitement coming from the soon to be thousands of people swarming festival camps across the nation. Festivals tend to be inhibited with the most non-judgemtnal, free-spirited and unique groups of people you'll ever come across. If you're new to the festival crowd, here are some things not to do during your experience.

1. Be that person who doesn't know a single band

Do your research beforehand. Don't buy tickets to a festival just because everyone else has. If you don't like or know a single band there, perhaps put your money towards a Taylor Swift concert instead.

2. Only go for the sake of likes on Instagram

If you're spending more time trying to get the perfect picture for your Insta followers rather than enjoying the amazing experience in front of you — you're doing it wrong.

3. Stay glued to your phone the whole time

Same as before, if you're spending more time Snapchatting and scrolling through Facebook (especially during an awesome show) than watching the performances — you're doing it wrong. Festivals are a way to escape from the real world. So, unplug and connect with others around you.

4. Be that girl who has to get on someone's shoulders every other song

Getting on someone's shoulders may seem like the "festival-like" thing to do, and I am sure it looks super artsy on your Insta — but I assure you that it is really not necessary, and the people behind you won't be your biggest fan.

5. Put a blanket down in the crowd and then act like you've suddenly bought a plot of land

Yelling at people who stand on your blanket is not the answer. I assure you by the end of the concert, your blanket will probably be a crumbled up ball and basically nonexistent. I know you want the perfect spot for all of your friends, but just remember there's other people there who are wanting to see the show too.

6. Whine about every little thing

Yes, everyone knows the weather conditions aren't ideal, and everyone smells bad — but you signed up for this. So stick to it. People who have unforgettable times at festivals are the ones who take in every second of them.

7. Spend tons of money to have the perfect "festival-like" outfit

Your clothes will be destroyed. Choose your outfits wisely and make sure they're cheap. Don't wear something thats extremely uncomfortable, hot and completely not your fashion sense just so that it will look good on Insta.

8. Not step out of your comfort zone

Make new friends, dance around, be weird with everyone. This is a vacation to a world of no judgement and good times. Make the most of it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
