What Not Seeing '50 Shades of Grey' Taught Me About Love

You might not be able to find true love in a movie like this, or any movie really, because true love isn’t found in a movie about sex. It’s found in a man named Jesus who gave His life for you on a cross.

What Not Seeing '50 Shades of Grey' Taught Me About Love

In college, I guess I'm somewhat free to do whatever I want, but that doesn't mean I don't still have standards. I could've gone to the movies and saw the new hit "50 Shades Darker" and my parents probably would've never known. But here's what I learned about true love by not seeing this movie.

You might not be able to find true love in a movie like this, or any movie really, because true love isn’t found in a movie about sex, it’s found in a man named Jesus who gave His life for you on a cross. The saying “Porn Kills Love” couldn’t be more true. There are so many teens and even adults who struggle with porn. So why does the media just so freely put it out there? It’s a temptation for everyone, and the media is just making it even more accessible than googling it.

We’ve probably all seen the trailer by now because companies think it’s okay to show that on tv nowadays. I just wonder how anyone could watch that and think “That’s what I look for in a relationship” or “That’s what I want my love life to look like.” It’s true... sex sells. That’s why they continue to make movies like this because they know people will pay to see them.

“It’s just some innocent fun” That’s exactly when the devil is looking for a time to seep lies into your life. Proverbs 1:11

“It’s just one movie, it’s not that bad” Yes, it might just be two hours of your life, but that’s two hours that could be spent on something else, something fulfilling, something that brings eternal life. Romans 6:23

“I don’t actually believe what it says” But is it building you up? 1 Thessalonians 5:11

“Porn doesn’t kill love”… yes, it does.

Not only does a movie like this “ruin” love for those of us looking for a Godly relationship, but how could it not ruin love for those already in relationships? As a girlfriend or wife, do you really think that’s the kind of movie you should be watching? I can’t see the respect or honor that it would bring to your boyfriend or husband by seeing that. Just like us, boys also need to be valued and treasured and seeing a movie like this that puts a bad image on men everywhere does no good.

Those of you who haven’t seen it, take a lesson from me and learn about love by not seeing this movie. Learn that love is more than just what the world puts on a movie screen. Love is more than just romance. Love is truly found when you seek the love that Jesus Christ so freely offers all of us.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
