What Newness To Look Out For On Netflix

A lot of excitement for the new shows and movies coming to our favorite streaming service.

Although Netflix is arguably our favorite activity to take part in when we should probably be focusing on the twelve-page paper that's due next week, it is easy to become tired of the same movies and television shows and documentaries that are constantly streaming. Luckily for us, Netflix is adding some deliciously exciting new titles for us binge-watch this fall.

The Amanda Knox Netflix Documentary

For those of you who aren't familiar with Amanda Knox, let me catch you up: In 2007, twenty-two year old Amanda Knox and Italian then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of brutally murdering Knox's British roommate Meredith Kercher while studying abroad in Italy. Knox and Sollecito were both found guilty and sentenced to twenty-six and twenty-five years in prison, respectively. In October of 2011, the two were acquitted and set free. Two years later, in March of 2013, the Italian final court of appeal overturned Knox and Sollecito's acquittals and found both parties guilty of murder in February of 2014. In 2015, the Supreme Court of Italy overturned both convictions. The chilling new Netflix documentary of the ruthless murder case explores the evidence and in-depth testimonies that have vexed and divided the world into two teams advocating for Knox's innocence or guilt. The documentary is set to premiere on September 30th.

"Justin Timberlake and The Tennessee Kids"

Our boy Justin Timberlake has teamed up with Netflix to release a concert performance film in early October. The film allows those who weren't lucky enough to experience the magic of a live JT production to virtually spend an evening with the crooner during the last night of his 20/20 Experience World Tour. Joined by his faithful crew of a band, The Tennessee Kids, Timberlake wildly entertains with the biggest fights from debatably his most popular album. For me, October 12th can't come soon enough. An entire Netflix production that showcases Justin Timberlake dancing his way into my heart?! Count me in.

Season 5 of "New Girl"

If you know me, you know that I love "New Girl," and you know that I was absolutely heart-broken over the fact that I didn't have cable during the time that season five was premiering. Thankfully enough, Netflix has come to the rescue, (but honestly, when don't they?) While a specific date has not been announced, it has been stated that season five of the comedy hit will begin streaming on Netflix sometime in September. For those of you who are like me and haven't seen the latest season, you can understand why this is a huge deal. When we left from season 4, Coach moved with his musically-inclined girlfriend to New York, Schmidt proposed to Cece (!!!!!) in the most nonchalant and sweetest way, and, maybe this was just me, but there was some weird sort of tension going on between Nick and Jess. I'm not sure what this means for the two star-crossed lovers in season five, but I know that an episode will be dedicated to the wedding of one of our favorite television couples.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
