Every year after Christmas the question that seems to squirm its way into every conversation is, "What is your new years resolution?". This year my goal isn't fitness related, or to get more organized; no my goal this year is to simply practice more self care. The idea of self care just seems like something that is preached about so often, but very rarely practiced and that is awful. Its no secret that college is incredibly busy and stressful, but it has made me feel that I am not successful if I am not being productive. People are compromising their mental health by thinking that not always being busy means that you are being lazy. You deserve the nap, coloring page, coffee, or netflix show because you have been working hard! Your mental health is so much more important than what we think sometimes. Take some time out of your day everyday to make time for what you like in order to increase positivity and happiness in your life. Times can be hard after the holidays, and its important to do what is best for yourself.
Here are the best ways to practice self care within the new year!
-Create a rainy day box so on your hard days you have something that can make you smile
- Meditate: do guided meditation sessions to help you relax
-Declutter: clean out your closet and your room donating clothes or items that you no longer need. It will make you feel more organized and happier since you are donating!
-Volunteer at the animal shelter and socialize dogs or cats
-Have a date with yourself: take a day or even just an hour to do something that makes you incredibly happy.
-Ask for help: its not weak to ask for help. If you feel that are losing your wits reach out to a friend, parents, or even a professional and get the help that you deserve.
