What do you need? A House Cat!
Lukus Becker

What should be apart of any college students house as they go through college? My biggest suggestion is a pet, in my terms it is a house cat. My roommate introduced this cat from the shelter to our college house this past semester and I was skeptical of the cat as I had never had an indoor cat before. I have only had barn cats, that pretty much minded there own business outside and rarely interacted with us. But I was game to have a pet in the house, especially since it was low maintenance.

We named the 1 year old grey tiger cat Boots and he got accommodated to the house quickly. I was still a bit skeptical as he seemed to just claw everything. Our friendship grew as I often leave my door open and he loves to come into my room to look out the windows. Then he started to do what any cat does to win over an owner which is to find small spaces to fit in and lay down. He did this with almost every drawer in my dresser and so many boxes I had around my room. He kept this up and I have to say I became a fan of him because he was just a fun cat and comforting.

The instant that really won me over for forever was a few weeks before Christmas during finals week. I was feeling really low with myself about how the semester was going. I sat in front of our Christmas Tree at our house late at night and Boots came over to play but instantly just came up and curled up in my lap. Between the glow from the Christmas Tree and the comfort from Boots it made me feel so much better, more relaxed and let me think it will be all okay, you have a great life. So yeah, Boots is my buddy now and he can still be a pain in the butt but worth all the issues.

So if you are thinking about getting a pet or feel like you need something in your life the perks of a cat are great for college students:

1. They are pretty self sufficient, just give them food, water and some attention and they are sold.

2. They are pretty fun to play with for either laser pointers or toys on ropes, but be warned they will also try to play with your shoe laces as you tie your shoes.

3. They will curl up in to you at times that are super adorable but usually when you need to move or go to the bathroom.

4. They make you more assertive as they will brake the rules you set up for them, often.

5. They have no judgement when you have to vent and usually all they will ask for in return is to be pet.

6. When they loaf up its adorable and if you don't know what that means google cats loafing and you will understand.

7. Watching them go about their own day is pretty great as they are very independent but also have weird habits like trying to catch the birds outside window by jumping at it.

8. They are soft and thats always a nice thing.

9. I did nine for the amount of cat lives but honestly a pet can be a great companion during college as you go through ups and downs. So if you have the option, think about it and take the responsibility seriously because it could be a gift in your life.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
