What My Freshman Year Meant to Me

I'm sure a lot of people say their freshman year was the best, but for me it truly has been the greatest year of my life. I've learned a lot about myself and who I want to be, I've met some of the most amazing people on earth, and I've created some of my favorite memories thus far.

For all of my fellow Cardinals, I'm sure we can all agree that Ball State is a very overlooked school, and we rarely get the recognition we deserve. We may not be a Big 10, but we don't need to be. I've never felt more at home than I do here at BSU, and a big part of that has to do with the people I'm surrounded by every day. Everywhere I go there's a friendly face, and everyone I meet is always so welcoming. From my amazing, loving sisters; to the strangers in line at The Atrium, Ball State has provided a great sense of community, and I couldn't be more proud to call myself a Cardinal.

I came into college totally vulnerable and scared, but excited and eager to learn new things. I can honestly see a transformation in myself, and I've only been here for eight months. I like to think I understand the world a little better, and I can see myself a little clearer as well. College has taught me responsibility, generosity and appreciation. I possessed all of these qualities before I started college, but being here and writing my own story has made them even stronger. I've learned to be responsible through my classes, and the freedom that comes with going away to school. Not everyone can handle going away, and I think I've found a good balance for myself. I've learned generosity through all of my friends and sisters who have taught me how to be a friend in the best way possible. Lastly, I've developed a strong sense of appreciation for the people and opportunities in my life. Being here is a privilege, and I am truly blessed to be where I am today.

All in all, my freshman year taught me some of the most important things in my life, and I will forever be grateful. It's crazy to think that I get three more years to continue to grow and create even more memories with my favorite people, at the best school in the world.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
