What My First Day Of College Classes Was Really Like

After my family dropped me off in my college dorm room on a Sunday afternoon I immediately went to work organizing my school supplies. I had always loved the first day of school and the new supplies and excitement that went along with it. I already had my notebooks, pens, and new school planner set up at my desk, eagerly awaiting my first class on Thursday morning.

I had my campus map app ready to go and I had already visited all the buildings that I had class in and felt ready to start. But, one thing that they don't tell you about college is that suddenly all concept of time and space become completely irrelevant to you and now 12:30 am is an early time to go to bed and you forget how to wake up in the morning for class. Even though I had only been at Binghamton for four days my sleep schedule had taken a turn for the worst; midnight became the perfect time to watch one more episode of Glee.

Wednesday rolled around and I had already planned out my night, a very calm movie night with some friends and then to bed showered and with an outfit picked out all before 10:30. Well, my shower finished up sometime around 10:00 and while laying out my outfit I realized I wanted to call home and talk to my mom before my big day of classes. My phone call ended right around 10:30 and I were all ready for bed, PJs and all. To reward my diligence and calm some nerves I decided to watch the episode of Gilmore Girls when Rory starts college. Long story short, Netflix is evil and somehow distracts you just long enough after an episode ends so you have no idea a new one has started. I finally look at the clock and realize that it's 12:45 am and I have to got to sleep, but of course, the second you tell your brain you have to go to bed it decides to start theorizing quantum physics.

I don't remember what time I fell asleep that night, but I do remember my alarm going off around 6:45. I looked over at my roommate with envy realizing she does not have to leave for elementary statistics at 8 am. Lucky for me I had all of the clothes ready and my backpack waiting by the door for me. I ate some cereal from my room to avoid lines and wasting time in the dining hall and was out the door in no time. I then began my hike from my far away dorm to the center of the campus. My first class of the day (statistics) went very smoothly, the classroom was right where I remembered it.

I had a full day of classes ahead of me so I stopped for some caffeine before my next one. The day continued to progress without a hitch, until...chemistry. I mapped out where my lecture was being held and got there 15 minutes early so I could find a good seat, I found the room and filled in with other students. I took my seat and laid my laptop on the desk and sat on my phone waiting for my professor to begin the lecture.

After about ten minutes, I looked up at the large screens above the lecturer podium and the chalkboard and realized in horror that the board read "Accounting." I slowly began to slink out of my chair, quietly and without notice. I made it out of the lecture hall only to realize that my chem class didn't start until 3:30, not 2:30. But, all was fine with the world and my first day of classes ended successfully, and now I can confidently say I am ready for whatever Monday brings.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
