What My Favorite Professor Taught Me
Everyday Feminism

I believe everyone should have their most favorite teacher or professor. There were many teachers and professors in my life that taught me confidence and persistence. The one professor that taught me so much during my sophomore year of college was Matthew Dykas, referring to my Developmental Psychology professor. This man taught me things from what we do as a child and to why we do what we did as a child. Professor Dykas also taught me that this class can be easy to others, but you have to work to get the results you want. Some people study so hard and try to help others, but do not receive the results they expected to receive. I want everyone to know that sometimes your favorite professor may not give you the best grade, but sometimes at the end of the day, the only person you could blame is yourself. Some instructors may be arrogant and egocentric, but it is your job to participate and keep up with the work that is being thrown at you. Professors can make you or break you when it comes to grades.

It can even sometimes be that when you write a paper, the professor may not agree with some of your ideas and give you a bad grade because of that. This professor taught me the ropes around college and what college could do to you emotionally and physically. At times, people will have to do an all-nighter to study for an exam they have in the morning or write a five-page paper that they have due at midnight. College is a bumpy ride similar to a roller coaster, lots of ups and downs that you just have to go through so you can become successful. Sometimes others may think that college can be easy when they enter and as the years go on the stress continues to accumulate. Professor Dykas gave me an insight on what to do before entering a Graduate's program and to prove that you are capable of doing almost anything in your field according to your resume and other things done around the community. When you are getting taught by someone, it is best to understand after taking the information given.

Oswego State has changed me into a pre-adult with an adult mindset and someone who became mature more than I have ever been. It may be the people who you hang around with or the professor who give life lessons to the whole class. A professor who teaches others his knowledge and what the class consists of is the best professor you can have. Professors love kids that are motivated to do their own work and stay on top of the work thrown at them from either side. Thank you Professor Dykas for such a good amount of knowledge shared with me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
