My brother Steven may have a disability but he has still taught me so much in life. Steven has a form of Autism called Asperger’s. His disability has handed him some rough times in life but it has also been a blessing in disguise. He has taught me perseverance, dedication, to be loving, and to not be so serious.
Steven shows perseverance every day. One huge example of Steven showing this trait is when he finally was able to get a job. He has tried for many years to get a job but after many failed tries he didn’t know when it would actually happen. It was hard watching him be so disappointed so many times when he didn’t get a call back or wasn’t asked to come in for an interview. However, one day an amazing person decide that she believed his disability shouldn’t define him. She even stated that everyone deserves a chance and that was good for Steven. He went for the interview and within a few days the job was his. The job is a page at The Minneola Library. He enjoys going to work and has a good time with his colleagues. That is all my family could ask for with his first job. Steven is now happy because he has his own job and makes his own money. He tries his best at his job and never gives up.
Steven shows dedication to many things. However, there is one thing he is more dedicated with than anything else. That thing is baseball and The New York Yankees. Steven looks to the Yankees as a getaway. I believe the tam is way to escape the trials of everyday life. He believes the team is the best in baseball no matter what anyone else tries to tell him. Even if something bad happens with the team he continues to support it and the players. Steven knows everything and anything about baseball and all the teams. He remembers stats and records better than anyone I know. Steven shows that no matter what is going on your life you should take some time and find something you enjoy.
Steven is also very loving. He shows love to the many animals my family has. With the many animals Steven shows that he wants them to love him as much as he loves them. Between sitting with them when needed and just doing anything with them Steven is always there. He has a lizard that he considers his. He is always with his pet doing things whether it’s watching T.V. or just visiting with our family. I look to Steven to always show them love.
The main thing Steven teaches me is kind of silly and funny. He teaches me to not be so serious in life. He has no filter so whatever he thinks or feels he just says. Although I don’t like some of the things he has said and some may even be inappropriate; he says some things that are really funny. Steven would rather have fun any day instead of being serious. He can be the funniest person in the room sometimes without even trying. Steven knows I have the tendency to take life too seriously sometimes so he will try to make me feel better by laughing. Some say the best medicine is laughter and I think Steven honestly believes that.
Steven may face trouble and toughness in everyday life but he doesn’t let that stop him.
