There are many things that I miss about the beautiful Garden State while at college. Here are four of my most-missed parts of New Jersey.
1. Bagels
I never thought that I'd miss bread so much until I went to college, and especially bagels. New Jersey bagels are something that you can't find anywhere else. Although people say New York bagels and Connecticut bagels are great, they cannot even begin to compare to New Jersey ones. Although the ones back home are definitely super unhealthy, the size of the bagels that I am forced to eat now compared to ones at I have waiting for me back at home is crazy. The bagels in Connecticut would be considered "mini" bagels back home. New Jersey people definitely turn into snobs when it comes to good food.
2. Taylor Ham
Taylor Who? Unless you're from Jersey, I've gotten the weirdest looks from people when this delicious food comes into conversation. People do not believe me when I say that it's a food and not a person. People also do not believe me when I say that it's better than bacon and goes really well on an egg sandwich. Shipments of Taylor Ham definitely need to be sent to Connecticut.
3. No tax on clothing
I did not even know that clothes tax was a thing until my friends and I decided to online shop in hopes of sending the packages to our college mailboxes. So far, while everyone has had packages sent to our school mailboxes, I have sent everything home to New Jersey.
4. Jersey accents
"Joisey" is not a thing, but "you're definitely from Jersey" is said to me by everyone that I've met so far. They tell me that my accent is so strong; the differences noticed when I pronounce dog as "dawg" and water as "waawter." Every time I meet someone from Jersey, we start dancing and cheering because it's so exciting to meet someone who knows you simply through your "Jersey accent." New Jerseyans are known to be loud and energetic.
