March: the month of midterms and unpredictable weather, right?

Well, yes, we can all attest to the midterm frenzy and the guessing game as to whether you need to dress for winter or summer, but to the University of Dayton Flyers, the month of March means a little more than that. For us, March is a time of community and excitement.

March is for...

1. Basketball

We love our basketball teams year round, but excitement really kicks up in March. Why's that? Oh, just this little thing called March Madness. That we, a medium-sized private Catholic university in Dayton, OH have been a part of for the last four years straight. From our men's NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 2014 to our women's NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 2015...you can say we know how to cheer on our team. Energy is high, school spirit is higher, and man, do we know how to celebrate a win. You can't escape the basketball buzz that spreads around campus every March, and really, why would you want to?

2. Break

Yeah, we may complain about not having a full week-long break, but that doesn't mean we don't cherish the two days that we do have off. Whether you stay on campus and catch up on sleep, go home, or, as it seems like most people did, go to Tennessee, you're sure to appreciate the break from classes. However, there's something eerie about an empty campus that just doesn't feel right. (Or maybe that's just the nun dolls.)

3. Housing Applications

Whether you are finally getting assigned your special interest housing, or eagerly totaling up your PATH points and filling out your application, March is a time of housing excitement and anticipation. The Facebook pages are filled with people looking for and finding roommates, and we're on the edge of our seats to see where we're placed. Did we have enough points to get our first choice block? If we didn't, let's be honest...anywhere on UD's campus is a great place to live, and we couldn't be happier to be a part of the student neighborhood community.

4. St. Patty's

Who knows why St. Patrick's Day is so big at UD? And really, who cares? For whatever reason, this is our day. It's a day of celebration and community and costumes and yes, some beer. This day is fun and in all honestly, completely exemplifies UD's community. From the friendly, neighborly and welcoming behavior of those celebrating to the University's efforts to keep us safe, we're all looking out for one another. Stay safe.

5. The Flyers

Yes, March is for the Flyers. It's a month when we can come together in celebration of our school, our community, and our fellow Flyers.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
