While the Bachelor franchise is not necessarily the show for everyone, I shed tears watching Nick Viall propose to the final contestant, Vanessa Grimaldi, with probably the most genuine and heartfelt proposal speech I have ever heard. Regardless, they are happily engaged right now, but I am even more excited for the next season of "the Bachelorette." Two words: Rachel. Lindsay.
Rachel is not only the first African-American Bachelorette or the Bachelor on the reality show, but she is also the first Bachelorette that I feel actually DESERVES to be on the show and to look for love. Just to short-list a few reasons of how amazing she is:
1. She is 31
An age where marriage is actually a serious commitment and not something you can do multiple times (she's also a Christian so the "do marriage once" thing applies, too).
2. She knows what she wants in a man
Going off of my previous point, maturity is defined when you come to a point in life when there's no more playing around. As she said in her Ellen interview, "I’m looking for a guy who knows exactly what he wants, who is ambitious, ready to start a family, and ready to get married because I’m at that phase in my life.” Now that sounds like someone who is ready to get married.
3. She has great "emotional intelligence"
Remember when she was in the final three, but ended up getting eliminated? It was her grace and composure that made America fall in love with her. She wasn't bawling like the other girls, but rather she took the news in an extremely elegant manner.
Rachel is just unlike any of the other Bachelorettes we've ever had. She is intelligent, sexy, laid-back, gets along with everybody, has a reputable occupation, composed, and has an overall great personality. She's in it for love and not the cameras, and that's why we love her so much. America is just as excited, and I cannot wait to follow her journey to find her husband.
