Look at yourself right now. Who are you? What are you? Why do you do the things you do?
There are so many unanswered questions regarding humans beings. But the one that stands out to me is, what makes people people?
It is truly a daunting task when pondering how to decipher people. We do so many unique, unusual, and crazy things. We have emotions such as love and envy which may not always be easy to explain. We judge other people yet get upset when others judge us. When we're with our partners we may act differently around them than we do with our friends. When we are with our families we may kind of even act like angels. One thing is for sure though: We are certainly one of kind.
We are exquisite creatures that have immense capabilities even beyond our wildest dreams. We have people traveling to the moon through spaceships. We have scientists creating cures for all different types of illnesses. We even have people discovering electricity. Which happens to power our mobile devices, televisions, and computer systems that were all created by people. We are extraordinary beings that should never be discounted or dismissed.
The things we do as people and what we have accomplished may make us who we are, but I think where we truly find out who we are is when we are alone. We think freely and do freely when we are alone. We don't feel external judgement, don't feel pressure, and don't feel any obligations to please someone else. We are just alone. In our own little world created to suit our needs and our comforts. I believe everyone is the most themselves when it's just them and only them. Yes, there are so many factors that come into play when trying to answer a question such this.
The truly great thing, though, is that everyone can break down that question in a different way because we are all people. Right now people are struggling, people are worried, and people are afraid. Yet, we still remain people. We may not be as unified as we once were, but I'm sure given time we will be. People feel anger, sadness, and worry, but what brings us out of that darkness is ourselves. We fight our inner demons as well other people's demons. We as people are different than nearly everything else in existence and words cannot always describe us.
What makes people people, is a prolonging question that goes as far back as anyone can remember. Emotions, intelligence, and unity are only a handful of the factors that make us who we are. But for our world today and for right now in this very moment. What may help us boost our status as human people and get back our unity may as well lie within a quote made by one of our own. So I leave you with this ladies and gentlemen:
"Do not go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light"
~Dylan Thomas
