To My Mother, The Best One In The World

All moms are great, but mine's the greatest.

Mom,

You are the person I immediately and intuitively call the moment something goes right or wrong. You are the person I confide in about anything and everything. There is nothing you do not know about me, which might be strange to some, but the transparency of our relationship is uniquely beautiful to me.

I am so grateful for you. Your strength, independence, determination and thoughtfulness are qualities that I aspire to exude in all their fullness just as you have. The mom I aim to be someday (not anytime soon, relax) is one who loves her children unconditionally, just as you do.

I can say, with the utmost confidence, that you love me for who I am and not for who you wish I was. Often, parents project unattainable standards onto their children, which causes them to idolize their children and keep them on a pedestal. You, however, recognize my shortcomings and failures and love me anyway.

Though, I will admit, I don’t have many failures for you to embrace in the first place. I think the main reason my life has been a series of accomplishments is because I never had the pressure or fear of you loving me any less if I did fail. I’ve always known that no matter what, you’d be there by my side. This prompted me to boldly and fearlessly try my best at everything.

Our relationship is authentic, honest and special. You are the person I know I can always count on no matter the hour. If it’s 4 in the morning and I’m crying, I know you would not mind being woken up to help me. That’s because you put me before yourself. You are selfless and kind, continually catering to my needs before your own.

You taught me that I can do anything. Ever since I was a child, I've always believed that the sky is the limit because you never led me to think any different. It is because of you that I dream so big. It is because of you that no matter the obstacle, I will always keep pushing forward and never give up.

I cannot thank you enough for all that you are and all that you’ve done. You are the epitome of what it means to be a good mother. You are my superhero.

I can’t wait to attain all my dreams and share that glory with you. You’ve been there for me at my lowest and I am so excited for you to witness my highest as well. You deserve everything you’ve ever wanted and I plan on giving you nothing short of just that. Thank you for being the best mom in the entire world.

Love,

Araceli

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
