What It's Like To Be A Twenty-Something Addicted To Disney Music

Blurting the lyrics to “Hakuna Matata” to your parents while in the “Frozen” aisle in the grocery store doesn’t have the same effect as it did when you were a young warthog -- I mean, kid. Heads turn, eyes stare, mouths giggle, all because you aren’t afraid to belt out Disney lyrics anytime, anywhere. But let’s face it, singing Disney music when you are a 20-something changes the way people think about you. Your "Ohana" is annoyed at your obsession, and all of your friends think that they can “Make a Man Out of You” when, in reality, you are “One Jump Ahead” of them. And strangers? Well, they’ve never met a “Stranger Like Me [You]."

Once you realize that your obsession isn’t as widely tolerated as you hoped it would be, drastic measures must be taken to try to fit in and be “A Part of “Their” World.” You start to mumble the lyrics under your breath, hoping that no one will hear you. But people start to “Stitch” together bits and pieces of what you mumble, and figure out that you are in fact singing Disney music.

So. then you decide to sing the music in your head. You “Let It [the music] Go” and your head is full of melody after melody. What’s the downside, you ask? No one can hear me; it’s perfect!

Wrong! You can’t dance! You have spent all of your spare time learning and singing Disney songs and you forgot one of the most important pieces to Disney music --dancing! You normally just dance alone in front of the “looking glass,” but now that you can’t sing out loud the dancing vibes are taking over. You’re a “Beast” at dancing and not in the good way, but the holy-cow-you-look-atrocious way -- and those “Poor Unfortunate Souls” who saw you dance now go running in the other direction.

Don’t fret! Word of your horrid dancing will “Tramp” its way to your friends and family, and they will want the old, sing-songy you back! Because after all, they “Ain’t Never had a Friend Like You”.

Eventually, you will grow older and your love for Disney music will only grow stronger and stronger. Do not be afraid to “Go The Distance;” find someone whom you are truly in love with. If you ever feel down in the dumps about finding your “Prince Charming,” just remember, “Someday Your Prince Will Come” and you might even find “A Girl Worth Fighting For,” as long as they live, love and breathe Disney.

Please note: if you sang any of the lyrics while reading this article, you might have an obsession with Disney music!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
