What A Liberal Arts Education Will Give You

Liberal arts colleges are famous for providing students with new and exciting opportunities that stray from the more rigidly structured education offered by large universities. But what does this actually mean for you?

1. Close community.

Going to college is a scary experience, but after four years at a liberal arts college you'll be sure to graduate with a strong network of close friendships. From your crazy freshman hall to those students that ended up in every single one of your classes, you'll never feel alone on campus. It's always nice to see a friendly face as you're walking to class.

2. Freedom to explore your interests.

Create your own major. These four words might change your college experience. With course requirements spanning every discipline, you're forced to take classes you may have never considered before. But even better than that, you have the freedom to create an interdisciplinary major that is tailored to your interests. By not being confined to a standard major such as Biology or Finance, you can make your education all about you!

3. Connections.

The alumni network that you will become a part of upon graduating from a small liberal arts college is unparalleled. From the monthly networking events to the alumni clubs in major cities, you know that there are thousands of alumni just waiting to help you out! Even if an alumni can't secure a job for you, odds are they will be more than willing to offer you some pointers and tips for getting into their industry. Everyone remembers how stressful landing that first job can be, and your school's alumni are happy to help the process along.

4. Mentors.

At liberal arts schools, the majority (if not all) of undergraduate courses are taught by experienced professors. Due to the smaller class sizes at liberal arts schools, your access to these professors is unparalleled. Not only will your professors be accessible to you during designated class time, most liberal arts school professors encourage communication outside of class as well. Between office hours, open-door policies, and the occasional dinner at your favorite professor's house, your mentors will to be available to you 24/7.

5. Extracurriculars.

The vast array of extracurricular clubs and activities offered at liberal arts colleges will allow you to explore yourself outside of the classroom. From outdoors clubs to Greek life to intramural sports, there's something for everyone. With such a tight-knit community, clubs are just another great way for you to get out there and meet people.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo
