Returning to my lovely hometown and away from my friends this summer left me with way too much free time. I found myself filling that time watching way too much Netflix and eating whatever food my mom would make for me. As I rewatched all my favorite movies for the hundredth time I got to think more about them. My all time favorite movie, Legally Blonde made me think the most. From the day it was released way back in 2001, I was in love. What 90's girl didn't want to be Elle Woods? However, like many other Hollywood movies, some of it's characters were said to be members of Greek life. As a member of Greek life watching these Hollywood movies I'm quick to point out all the misrepresentation Greek life receives in movies. While Legally Blonde definitely is a little stereotypical they did get some main points right about what being in a sorority can do for a girl.
1. Being in a sorority teaches us that confidence is the most important thing a woman can wear. Being surrounded by over a hundred girls who not only support you, but help you with whatever life throws at you, can really help girls feel the confidence they need to tackle whatever they want in life.
2. Great fashion advice to help you always look presentable. Sorority girls know how to dress for success!
3. Strong and loyal friendships. Finding the sorority you belong in means finding young woman who are very similar to you, so you are bound to make lasting friendships.
4. People to Share Emotions with. Living with 40 or 50 other girls can be overwhelming at times, but there is always someone around to laugh or cry with you (or just sit around and do absolutely nothing with you because that's fun too).
5.Leadership/teamwork skills. Doing any task for your chapter requires communication with other people as well as working with other people.
6. Ambition. Greek life has the highest GPAs!
7. Looks can be deceiving. Prim and proper doesn't always mean pompous, just like pretty and bubbly doesn't mean unintelligent. Elle Woods may look like a Barbie but she has brains too. I mean she did get into Harvard law. "What like it's
8. Pink is a girls best friend. Fact of life.
