This month marks one year that I have been working at a daycare in my town. Although I was skeptical going into the job, it is one of the best things that have ever happened to me. My co-workers are phenomenal and the children I get to work with are precious.
Every day, I go home satisfied with my day and it's all thanks to the children I get to work with. I knew working there would have its obvious benefits, such as a great job to put on my resume, but I had no idea it would benefit me in so many other ways.
While working with children is no easy task, they have so much to offer me. Never before has my patience been tested so much.
Asking a child to stretch their hands out so I can paint it for a handprint art project seemed like a simple task until I actually had to do it. However, the finished project is so worth it. And so are the giggles that come with the paintbrush tickling their hands.
Working at a daycare has also taught me that life really shouldn't be so complicated. These children get so excited at the littlest things, and it warms my heart to see that. I could ask them about going to a chain restaurant, and their eyes light up as if they had gone on the best adventure in the world.
They get their feelings hurt one second, and then the next, they're off laughing and playing. I truly believe so much can be taught by working with children, as I myself am taught something new every day.
Another huge benefit from working at a daycare is that I laugh hard daily. The words that come out of their mouths are 10 times funnier than any comedian will ever be.
Every day, I come home with more hilarious stories about what my toddlers and pre-schoolers have said. From walking in, first thing in the morning, to a little girl giggling only to tell me she farted, to a little boy asking me if my leg hair is supposed to be there, I am constantly laughing.
Most people would consider working at a daycare just babysitting, but I see it as so much more than that. I am proud to work at a daycare where I get to help mold young children into successful people.
I love my job and all the perks of it. Here’s to one year at my daycare and more to come.
