It was a super cold Saturday night in November. November 12th, to be exact. I picked out my newest 70's style purchase to wear to the Colonial Life Arena, and with that, my mom and I made our way downtown to be in the same room with one of the biggest musical legends of all time.
The show opened, and Chrissie Hynde came out with a bang. She rocked a little, she rolled a little, and the crowd was so hype. So many favorites were sung, and to see a slightly older audience sing out words to songs that clearly brought back so many memories was incredible to see.
The stage cleared, and after a few moments of anticipation, the silhouette of band members began to flood the stage. High energy music started, and when the lights came up, the drummer clicked in, and the room was enveloped with the sounds of the opening chords of "Gold and Braid." When the lights came up, and the curtain parted, she stood center stage in front of a single microphone. There are few things in my life that have made me cry on the spot, and seeing Stevie Nicks bring it to the stage was something I will never forget.
With each new song, she explained that she chose the song they were about to perform when planning for the tour, because she didn't want to ever look back and feel regret about not playing songs that were special to her just because they weren't necessarily her most popular songs. Of course there were classics like "Rhiannon" and "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" which made the entire room of thousands upon thousands of people light up, without a doubt the most memorable part of the evening were a few simple words Miss Nicks imparted upon the audience. She said so simply, "There is no such thing as being too old to follow your dreams. Do not think it's too crazy, or that it's too late because you're approaching your 30's. You aren't too old, and it's not too big. Just go do it!"
How often we try to discount our dreams because we believe we aren't qualified. Who told you that? What person actually let the words "that dream of yours, it's not going to happen because you aren't good enough." I think if we really step back and look, we'll find that no one ever said those words. Our own minds did. We told ourselves that whatever it is written on our hearts that we desire to accomplish, can't be done.
As a child, when asked to do things that a child wouldn't necessarily enjoy doing, like chores or going on a "boring" errand, my response would always be "I can if I will." After spending 4+ hours of my life in the same room as Stevie Nicks, I see it. This girl has big dreams, and an even bigger God who has made those dreams for me, and if I can, I will. It's as simple as that. Thank you Lord for the dreams you place in our lives, and thank You for making incredible human beings like Stevie Nicks to remind us to get out there and get after it. Who's with me?!
