What I Learned From My First Love

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails" -(1 Corinthians 13.)

What I learned from my first love is priceless. It cannot be bought. Coming from a broken past, my first love taught me what love is. He taught me how to love. He taught me about love's power and love's ability to heal.

My first love taught me patience, compassion, sympathy, empathy, thoughtfulness, selflessness, sacrifice, sharing, self-love, gratitude, and beauty. I reflect on our relationship with gratitude.

My first love told me that when we part ways he wanted me to be able to look at myself in the mirror and tell myself I am beautiful. And my first glance at myself in the mirror when I said goodbye to him, I told myself I was beautiful.

My first love taught me to stay true to myself. My first love taught me that love is about wanting what's best for the other person. He taught me that what we had was priceless and could not be bought. I learned more from him than I will in four years of college.

Words don't and will never do my first love justice. My first love taught me that it's okay to let love in and that love will come again. My first love came into my life and served his purpose, to teach me about love and to be a lifelong friend.

To my first love... you know who you are. I love you and I thank you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
