Maybe I am biased, but New York City is the best city in the world, and living here is even better. Creativity is practically oozing off the sides of buildings, and not a day goes by where I don't feel blessed to be able to call New York City my home. Although I like to think of myself as a Manhattan expert, I definitely learned a few valuable things while living here.
1. Comfort over fashion.
One of the most important things i've learned is that I would rather be comfortable than walk 50 blocks in heels. Comfort over fashion any day.
2. Always bring an umbrella.
This may seem silly, but you don't understand how many times I have been caught in the rain with no umbrella.
3. No matter what time of day it is, you will never find a seat on the 6 train.
If you do happen to find a seat while riding the subway, the feeling is equivalent to that of winning the lottery.
4. Avoid Times Square at all costs.
Don't get me wrong, the lights, billboards and stores are great, but the tourists -- not so much.
5. Have your metro card out before you get to the turnstile.
There is nothing I hate more than waiting behind someone searching for their card in the deepest pits of their bag.
6. Pigeons, pigeons everywhere.
I'm not even phased by pigeons flying inches away from my head anymore.
7. It is absolutely possible to get lost in Central Park.
Trust me, it's happened to me, more than once.
8. Taxi drivers have no mercy.
Don't get in their way. They can and will run you over.
9. Google Maps is your best friend.
Google maps has saved my life more times than I can remember.
10. I live in the best city in the world.
New York City is where I belong, and I wouldn't trade living here for the world.
