During the weekend of October 5th to 9th, Hurricane Matthew made his way through Central Florida, wrecking some coastal towns, while barely touching others. Luckily, UCF Rosen was missed for the most part, and hit with only some wind and rain. Over the course of five days, we were on a relatively strict curfew and spent a lot of time locked up in our apartment. It's safe to say that a lot can happen in five days, but I definitely believe it was a learning experience in every single way and I'd like to share some of the most important lessons that I took away from this natural disaster.
You can fit six people on three twin mattresses.
Pushing our mattresses together on the living room floor was an excellent idea because we got to spend time together.
Surface Pros make for excellent TV's when duct taped to the wall.
Props to you Microsoft for making a quality tablet that has great display and sound quality. All was well until the Surface Pro came crashing down at what we can only imagine was between 3 to 4am, which was easily the most terrifying part of Hurricane Matthew.
New Girl is and always will be one of the most relatable shows. Ever.
Enough said, even if True American makes absolutely no sense.
Taco Bell is never a bad idea.
Guess how many times we went to Taco Bell that week. If you guessed an upwards of 3 or 4 times, you're not wrong. Even during a hurricane, you gotta do it for the Taco Bell, and eventually McDonald's.
Cooking and baking with friends is just about the best thing you could ever do.
We baked cookies, we made chicken, we made pudding. When you're basically locked in an apartment for a weekend with your friends, you have family dinners which just made the whole experience better.
Your true friends will love you, no matter what.
We went through a lot. We got really close and created friendships that will definitely last beyond the weekend.
Thank you to everyone who stuck out the hurricane in Orlando, FL. From the first night of pushing mattresses together in the living room, to the daily fast food runs, to binge watching New Girl, and learning how much we mean to each other, it was one of the best groups I could ever ask for to survive through Hurricane Matthew.
