What To Know If You Are Going To Be A Freshman At Clemson

Wow. I am so excited for you. You are going to be a freshman at Clemson University. I'm sure your parents are so proud of you, and though you are a little bit nervous, you can't wait to move in to your dorm. You will be living away from home, meeting so many new people, and having the time of your life. Here are some things that you need to know if you are going to be a freshman at Clemson.

1. Clemson Football has our hearts.

Deshaun Watson. Artavis Scott. Wayne Gallman. These Tigers and so many more brought us to the National Championship last year and we are planning to win it all this year. It is a great year to be a freshman because you will get to experience a great first year of being a Tiger student and fan. We have the most exciting 25 seconds in college football, but the memories will last a lifetime.

2. Your hall mates can become some of your closest friends.

Make sure you keep your door open as much as possible so people feel free to come in and chat or hang out if they want. These could become your friends for life.

3. Registering for classes can be overwhelming.

You may have never used a computer registering system before this, but trust me, you are not alone. There will be a lot of people who don't know how to do it. Just be patient and know that you can always drop and add classes up until a couple weeks into the semester, so that class you wanted desperately but didn't get may become available.

4. You should take a class that is totally out of your comfort zone.

Clemson is such a large university that it has an abundance of classes that are definitely not normal. Riflery, scuba diving, bowling, Shag dancing, and improv are only some of the exciting classes that Clemson offers. Try to fit at least one fun and crazy class in your schedule that you can really look forward to.

5. If anyone mentions wanting Smokin Pig for dinner, go with them.

Trust me. Go, get all the sides your little heart desires, and top it off with some sweet tea. You might even run into Dabo there!

6. Go to the Welcome Back Festival and Tiger Prowl.

The Welcome Back Festival is a great time to go downtown with friends, get tickets, and walk around to get to know the local businesses and organizations. You can get some great food, freebies, and coupons! Tiger Prowl is basically a club fair, where you can see what clubs Clemson offers and get put on their email lists to stay involved.

7. Spending a night studying in Cooper is not lame.

In fact, this can be the best way to hang out with friends. You may get really busy with schoolwork and it is so easy to just sit in your dorm room with your door closed, but if you grab a group and go to Cooper together and knock it out, you are bound to have a better time.

8. Wear Orange often.

Gamedays, school days, weekends. Every day is a great day to wear orange.

9. Learn the Cadence Count.

1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 C-L-E-M-S-O-N T-I-G-E-R-S Fight Tigers, Fight Tigers, Fight Fight Fight WHOOOOOO

10. You are going to the best university in the world. Make the best of it.

Freshman year can be overwhelming for sure, however, choosing Clemson to be your home for the next four years is the best decision you ever made. Have a great freshman year and GO TIGERS.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
