5 Things that LU Did this Week

What I've Learned from Welcome Week!
Liberty University

So, the beds are all made, the decorations are put up, and the books are bought (mostly)...that's typical Move-In Day at Liberty University! From Slip 'N Slides to the President's Kickoff, "freshies" are finally getting to roam around their new home without their parents, and try this new thing called "adulting". Excitement, anxiety, and nerves are the vibes felt most commonly across campus during this time of year, but Liberty University is the place to go if you're looking for a successful Welcome Week.

Here's why:

1. They move you in... LITERALLY.

When I first arrived on campus at my dorm, I was bombarded by a bunch of screaming people in gray shirts with big red bins. Overwhelming? Maybe, but I was sooo incredibly grateful to be attacked by this band of helpers. They took all of my stuff from my car up to my room in approximately 10 minutes, which would have taken me about 7439204 hours (kidding, but not really). I'm eternally grateful for the amazing enthusiasm and the utmost spunk that these guys put into helping out us "freshies", and I am so thankful for their heart to willingly serve us!

2. Convocation is BANGIN'.

Okay, so, if you've been to any of LU's convocations, you know how truly amazing it is. BUT, it is so much more meaningful when you look around and think to yourself, "Wow, this is MY school." I felt such an incredible presence of the Spirit while worshipping at convocation, and the pride felt for our school was shining on each student's face as we lifted our voices to praise Him. Convo really is bangin'.

3. The ROT food isn't normal cafeteria food.

I mean, can I get an "Amen" on this one? The Reber-Thomas Dining Hall (AKA "The ROT"), provides Liberty Students with meal selections such as a Mongolian grill, a burger station, global foods, allergen-free foods, salads, sandwiches and wraps, pizza, pasta, a cantina, a coffee station, smoothies, desserts, endless ice cream, and even a specialized, protein-packed section for our students athletes and health nuts. I guess there's a reason that the ROT is the number one dining hall in the nation, huh? ;)

4. Student activities are LIT!

Slip n' Slides, meet and greets, free food, and the Presidential Kickoff have all been great ways for us freshies, who want to be social, to meet new people! Students were having water balloon fights in the bookstore parking lot on Thursday night, and on Friday evening, we were served a meal at the football stadium while we learned our football chants and cheers. It's pretty safe to say that Liberty's student activities are pretty lit when it comes to involvement on campus.

5. Free stuff...EVERYWHERE!!!

At Liberty, the staff definitely want to make sure that you "wear red!". Free t-shirts, cups, lanyards, backpacks, and pretty much anything you could ever imagine are available at almost every corner, which is basically broke college kid's dream. (Not to mention all of the free food that I've scored this week!)

So, those are a few things that I've learned from Welcome Week here at LU! I hope you've enjoyed this little tidbit of information and feel free to comment below if you relate!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
