1) We overpack

An hour before we leave, we are all calling each other up to make sure we pack the right kind of clothes/shoes. Truth be told, we all end up packing way too many outfits causing us to have a pretty packed trunk. Then we complain about how we should have brought different outfits and we didn’t plan accordingly!

2) We all argue over who’s sitting in the middle

We either rock, paper, scissors to see who sits in the awkward seat for several hours or we just all sprint to our desired seat, and we all feel no remorse with how we forced someone to have that awful seat.

3) 30 minutes in and someone already needs to pee

Even though we all knew to pee beforehand, someone either forgets or simply has too much water that day. This makes our road trip last a little longer, but we don’t even care.

4) We all huddle up and are careful to not touch anything infected in the sketchy gas station bathrooms

The fastest and easiest locations to pee, when there are no rest stops nearby, are the gas stations. We are not picky or bratty in any kind of way, but some gas stations can be pretty scary looking. They either have a horrible stench or have trash everywhere, so you and your girls just pray you don't catch anything.

5) We take over the gas station snacks and grab every item possible from all the shelves with no shame whatsoever

After we are relieved with our bathroom break, we all immediately get HANGRY. We all dash and pick out snacks, but are careful to not pick the same ones just so we can all share and have a variety of food. The gas stations must love us when we raid their store, we become animals.

6) We scream out every word to every song played, even if we don’t like it

The golden rule is that the person sitting shotgun has the aux cord, which is a huge responsibility. That person has to fulfill every person’s music needs and that is a lot of pressure. Therefore, we all suck it up and just enjoy every song being played. We love music so much and that is how we make the most memories together!

7) We make up strange dance moves to different genres and sing in different accents just to make memories

Just to keep the road trip a little interesting, we all end up singing songs in different accents or vocals and make our own moves to entertain one another. This is when I laugh the most!

8) The one friend who’s in charge of aux gets tired of our shameless song requests

We sometimes NEED a song to be played during the long car ride, and our dj sometimes does get a little cranky with us. Sorry not sorry!

9) No one wants to fall asleep in fear of missing gossip or crazy laughs

I tried to fall asleep for a little bit since my sleeping schedule is so messed up, but as soon as I heard one of my girls start talking about their boy problems I immediately got up and did not think about sleeping any longer.

10) More bathroom and stretch breaks

We need constant breaks, its mandatory.

11) Someone attempts to do homework in the car, and the rest of us share our hotspot and try our best to have her turn the assignment in before midnight

When we plan out a road trip, that is all we can think about for the rest of the month or even week. Therefore some of us forget about doing some assignments or push it off and focus on packing. Since we are all loyal friends, we make sure that we always have each others backs.

12) We get REAL personal and some secrets are told

Long car rides can bring the deep within some people, and some things no one ever suspected are said.

13) Everyone gets antsy and is constantly asking the real question everyone cares about

Enough said.

14) We fight over the one charger

It’s a war zone.

15) We eagerly plan our activities out in the car and can’t help but squeal over how much fun we’ll have

There is so many “AHHH I can’t wait” or “We are going to have a blast” or “ AHHH AKNSINSIZBVIBVI” yeah that’s an actual phrase.

16) We finally arrive to our destination and half of us want to pass out while the others have too much energy to sleep

Let the adventure begin!

17) At the end, we all realize how much we love each other and wouldn’t have wanted to have a road trip with anyone else

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
