I was a lucky girl at the young age of 18 because I chose to go to college with my best friend. She was my sanity. Every day for the first month of college I would say, "how do people live with someone they don't know?!". Just because I went with her though, it doesn't mean college was a walk in the park. Whether you found your best friend at college, or went with her, you are lucky to have her.
1. She's always down to cuddle and wipe your tears when you're feeling overwhelmed by school.
My best friend has always been there. She will tell me to crawl into her bed when I'm being grumpy or crying, and she will always hug me and tell me I'm beautiful. She knows how to make me laugh and will even wipe my makeup off if it's smeared all over my face from my tears.
2. She keeps your feet on the ground.
I went to high school with my best friend, so when I try to act cooler than I actually am she reminds me of the band kid I was in high school. The second I start to act different than the person she knows (and loves), she puts me in my place and reminds me I'm perfect just the way I am.
3. She's your fashion advice AND your extra closet.
She has never let me leave the room looking like an idiot. I will even wake her up in the morning to get one last-second question in before I leave for a big day. Even when she is gone, I can send her a picture and she'll tell me if I look like I'm wearing a jumpsuit or if my dress is too short. She's always down to let me borrow her favorite dress (even when she hasn't worn it yet), as long as I credit all my compliments to her.
4. She understands all of your weird habits.
I don't like potatoes and I have to cut my bananas before I eat them. My best friend only judges me a little for it. She still supports my habits and eats my non-crunchy fries and cuts my bananas for me. She doesn't threaten to move out when I just need the closets to be closed before we fall asleep so no monsters will crawl out of them.
5. She will make you food when your blankets are too warm to leave.
My roommate will tell me she's hungry and I'll immediately leap out of bed to make her food. She's my best friend, so I have to keep her around somehow! She never wants to get up and cook our leftover lasagna, so I am more than happy to microwave it and hand her a Diet Coke. I tell her she's a pain because she knows how to get me to do things for her, but at least she's cute.
6. She keeps you updated.
I have never understood the people who don't know where their roommate is. Mine shares her location with me on our iPhones and constantly keeps me updated on her life. Sometimes she just texts me her stream of consciousness so I'm super updated. Don't you want to know where she is? When/if she is coming back? I can't imagine not knowing where she is every second.
7. She has the same taste as you.
My roommate and I watch a lot of TV. It's good comedic relief when we work on homework and do important things. We watch all the same TV shows and can both quote most "Parks and Recreation" episodes. She's never going to walk in and sigh and put in headphones because she doesn't want to watch what I'm watching. She will hop into her bed and laugh right along with me.
8. She won't sneakily eat all your food.
My best friend isn't going to eat all of my food and pretend that someone else ate it, or pretend I just don't remember eating it. She will probably have crumbs in her bed and shyly tell me that she accidentally ate all my chocolate. However, she probably won't finish any of my food without texting me telling me she's about to and that someday she'll buy me a new bag.
9. She won't yell at you for not going to class.
If I'm having a rough day, my best friend understands. She will tuck me back into bed and get me some medicine and orange juice. She always knows when I really can't go to classes that day and won't make me feel bad about myself. However, if I'm just too lazy, she will drag my butt to class. She will bribe me with naps and candy but won't let me lose precious points just because I don't feel like going.
10. She's always going to be your person.
Having my best friend double as my roommate is truly the best thing I've ever experienced. She will never leave my side and will always be my partner in crime. We leave each other cute notes after long days and always are ready to hug it out. We have fights sometimes but it's usually about not taking out the garbage. I can't imagine living with anyone other than her and I consider myself the luckiest girl in the world to have her.
