What It's Like To Get Sick In College

Getting sick during the semester, especially around midterm or finals week, is a college students worst nightmare. It's not the same as getting sick in elementary, middle, and high school. When you lived at home, your mom would be there to take care of you and help you out when she could. That, unfortunately, won't happen anymore. Let's be real here, it's bound to happen at some point, especially if you live in a dorm. You're around people constantly whether it be in class, at the dining hall, or your dorm hall. Even walking to class in the cold weather can create a sickness. This why I'm thankful Naz has tunnels!! As a music major, getting sick is my ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. It feels as if the whole world is going to end if I get sick. The slightest cough I get makes me freak out. I'm a slight germaphobe too, so that does not help! Unfortunately, we college students do not get sick days, just like working adults. Remember throughout elementary school-middle school, you could get extensions on assignments if you were sick? HA..good luck with that one.

1. You become in denial that you're sick. You have 3 exams this week, a paper due, and multiple homework assignments to complete...and you're blowing your nose constantly while coughing up a lung...cool.

2. You start loading up on good ol' Vitamin C. Emergen-C, Airborne, and Halls Vitamin C drops become your lifesaver.

3. If you are a vocalist and enjoy throat-coat tea, you drink that tea like it's your job.

4. Don't stress yourself out and overload your schedule in college.. that can cause sickness! Trust me, I know.

6. DRINK WATER

7. You feel like you're actually going to die. You say to yourself "Well....I guess this is it."

8. You can't afford to miss class, so you end up going and spreading, even more, germs #thecollegeplague

9. You think about the good ol'days of when you were sick as a kid, and your mom would take care of you.

10. You start looking up home remedies to cure your sickness because, you refuse to call the doctor.

11. You begin to plan out your funeral arrangements.

12. You just want to nap all day, cause you've given up with life.

13. You start to forget about your certain responsibilities cause all you can think about is napping, blowing your nose, and needing another tissue box.

14. Don't email a professor saying "I'm throwing up, can't come to class today"....honey they do not care.

15. You sanitize EVERY SINGLE THING IN SITE.

To all of the college students who are sick, reading this article...hang in there! You will get through it! :)

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
