What It's Like To Be A Christian In The Millennial Generation

Being a Millennial and being Christian, not two words people often correlate with each other. First, let me break down the definition of a Christian according to Webster's dictionary: A person who believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ; one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. I could pull out the definition of what a Millennial is, but most would say that we are a lazy generation who wants and needs everything handed to them. I am here to tell you that being a Christian and being a Millennial can co-exist. Not in just a sentence, but inside a person too.

A common misconception I have heard from multiple people, friends and peers is that being Christian can't possibly be that hard or that temptation isn't there. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: It is so difficult and probably one of the hardest things I had ever chosen to do. Temptation is always there. Now, we always hear our parents say, "We've been where you are and we did all the same things." While that may hold true to an extent it doesn't hold all of its values. The Internet wasn't there, the ability to comment on a picture instantly on social media, texting, all the things we have access to, literally right at our fingertips. There are so many more temptations and easier ways to give into them now. Satan always knows what buttons to try to push to get you to sin or to get you to hurt. Something that is quoted multiple times and that I have learned myself is that the enemy only comes to steal, kill and destroy. We must not let it happen.

Something that is hard at times is being bold enough to speak on your faith when in reality most of us aren't living up to it to the best of our ability. This is where Satan tries to come into play, he will try to latch onto any sin, any mistake, any hurt that will have you thinking God hasn't forgiven you. Ladies and gentleman, we have an awesome, forgiving and loving God. Don't let those thoughts creep into your mind.

Being a Millennial in this generation and also sticking through with your faith is like being in a sea of fish swimming down South and you are in the middle of all these fish desperately trying to swim up North. There are times you will feel tired, discouraged and disappointed. But you know what? We can change what people think of Millennials. If anyone can do it, it's us. If our God is for us, who could ever stop us? That's right. Nobody. Let's change what the world thinks of us. Let's break barriers. Let's change the world. Let's cure diseases. Let's teach the next generation, if it's all in the name of God, it's possible.

To my fellow Millennials, do not be ashamed and do not be overwhelmed. I promise God is so much bigger than any of the problems coming your way. He will always be there to welcome you with open arms even when others aren't. I am here to tell you, that no matter how small you may feel you can make a difference. God calls on all of his people. And last, even when being Christian isn't the easiest thing, please remember it can be the most rewarding and the best life decision you have ever made.

Mark 16:15: He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.
