What It’s Like To Be Best Friends With Your Mom

She will always be there for you.

What It’s Like To Be Best Friends With Your Mom
Kylene Ronayne

The bond between a mother and her daughter is something special, but not all daughters can say that their mom is actually their best friend. Some girls would rather not share parts of their personal life to their mother, in the fear that they will not understand. There are also daughters that believe their social life is none of their families’ business. For me, though, I have always considered my mom my best friend in the whole world. She has been with me through thick and thin, and ultimately, she is the person who I look up to the most.

Your mom is there with you from the start, and never leaves your side.

Literally with you when you first arrive in this world, she is the one who guides you and makes sure that you are given all the resources you need in order to succeed. She is the one who knows you best, but sometimes this may cause issues. Growing up and becoming an adult can be very confusing, so sometimes daughters believe that they know what’s best for themselves.

However, their own decisions may end up being mistakes and they are forced to face the dreaded “I told you so” from mom. However, through all the slammed doors and silent treatments, your mom will always be the one closest to your heart and you will never be able to stay mad at her for too long.

You tell her EVERYTHING.

This may sound strange to some people who are not as close to their mothers, but there are girls out there that tell their mom’s basically everything about what’s happening in their life. At times, there may be things said that are a little too much information. No mom is okay with hearing all the intimate details of their baby’s love life.

Also, no daughter EVER wants their mom to spill all the juicy details of their love life “back when they were your age.” However, you trust your mom and she is appreciative of the information you do present to her so that she knows you are safe and happy.

She gives bomb advice.

Obviously, your mom has been through the some of the same experiences you are going through. She has lived longer and therefore, is a much better candidate for advice-giving than any of your teenage friends. Though sometimes she may be critical, she wants what is best for you and will never lead you in the wrong direction.

Basically, your mom wants you to be able to be independent and learn from your mistakes, but at the same time, she is willing to help you avoid some of the blunders that she has made in the past.

She is simultaneously a regular mom and a “cool mom.”

Though she knows when it’s time to get serious and act like the overprotective, crazy mom that she is, she’s also super cool and you’re totally not embarrassed to have her around your friends. People envy the relationship that you have with her.

You are also more like sisters in regards to the clothes and shoes you share. You see every day how you’re starting to become more and more like her, molding into the woman who you admire the most.

Your mom will always be your #1 supporter.

No matter what path you choose to go down, your mother will always have a sense of pride for who you become. Even during the rough times in your life, your mom will never give up on you. She believes in you more than you believe in you. She loves you more than you’ll ever understand, and she shows that with her #1 foam finger throughout every stage of your life.

Between attending every single important school or sporting event and the bragging Facebook posts, she will never turn down an opportunity to show off her baby. Little does she know that her baby learned all of that from the very best.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
