What It's Like Living With a 2-Year-Old

Living with a 2-year-old may seem like a breeze, but if you've had a child, sibling, niece, nephew or cousin you know it's a mess. There are a ton of ups and downs and a new adventure everyday.

Have you ever been asleep and all the sudden you feel like someone is jumping on your stomach? That is what happens when you live with a 2-year-old. If you think you get to sleep past the time they wake up, you are sadly mistaken. When a 2-year-old lives somewhere, they now own the place. The things you own, are now their toys. Especially if you leave them on the ground. The dog's food and water are their personal science experiment. If you think you can leave them with a bowl of cereal because, "it's just for a second and I really have to pee!" I am begging you please DO NOT DO IT.

The rooms that are not even dirty become a massive black hole for toys and pacifiers. One minute they have a truck and the next,it is gone. You've looked everywhere, in a room that is completely clean but can't find it anywhere. Two weeks later you will find that truck, in the kitchen under a table. How the heck did it even get there? The greatest mystery you'll never know.

If you think a 2-year-old can't understand what you're saying, trust me they can. Their little brains somehow connect dots and retain words that definitely shouldn't. One minute you're watching T.V. and the next minute you hear a word you didn't even know you had said. Then you have to re-evaluate your life and why you would possibly say that. On the other side, when they learn a new word it's like the happiest moment in the world. The minute they say the word "blue" and you never knew they could say the word "blue" it's the proudest moment you could have, whether you are their mother or not. You may cry. You probably will cry.

You will soon know all the words to the opening songs of all the shows on Disney Jr. and Nick Jr. It's inevitable. If you think they won't understand what the shows are, you are in for an awakening. You'll soon find out when they walk around the yelling, "Blaze! Blaze! Blaze!" that it is time to sit down and turn on "Blaze and the Monster Machines" before there is an uprising and you will lose.

Even though the little monsters can be, well little monsters, living with a 2-year-old is the best adventure you could ever have. There is never a dull moment and they can make you laugh until your stomach hurts. They teach you not to take life to seriously. Enjoy the little things. Even though they just dumped that bowl of cereal, it was an accident and honestly it was kinda funny. There is always a kiss waiting for you, whenever you want it. They know when you are feeling down and they try to help, whether with a hug or giving you their toys. It's always a new day and they are always ready for it.

It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
