What It's Like To Have A Big In College

When I tell someone that I have a big, people assume that I am in a sorority. Quite the opposite though. I go to small college where everyone gets a little. I go to a school that does not have sorority and it is almost like we are one big one. Though in a sorority or not, everyone can agree on what it is like to have a big.

It is like the big sister you never thought you could have.

This is crazy, but it happens. If you never have had a sister, then this is the great way to experience way to have one. From someone that is the oldest sister, it is amazing to have someone that is like an older sister to me. I get all the great things that come with having a big sister. Now if you have all brothers, have always wanted to know what it is like to have one, then this is the greatest way. You will fight like sisters, but you will love each other like no other.

Trying to figure out your big is the greatest mystery.

During the time when your big is still a mystery to you, it can be the biggest struggle. You have so many guesses of who your big is. Is it there person or is it that person? There are so many ideas running in your head of who it could be. Either way you are excited by the gifts they leave you and they hints that they leave. You think wow, I really am spoiled and love and it is great. You never truly know that kind of love until you get spoiled all week by some of the greatest gifts.

You love that you get spoiled the whole week leading up to the reveal.

If you do no already know, little's get spoiled like no other. I mean spoiled. There is candy, there is shirts, there are baskets full of things and things that you will love and cherish. It is crazy about how much big's will spend on their little's. Though at the end of the week you realize how much you love your gifts and that each and everyone of them have a special place in your heart.

Reveal does not come fast enough.

There is a long period of time when you do not know who your big is. All you want to do is sped up the days to reveal so you can figure out if your guesses are right or not. It is crazy. Then when it comes to the big week, the final and last day, where you finally get to see your big's face, it is amazing. Like best day of the week. Then is when you actually get to start talking to your big every day face to face for the rest of the time.

You have the greatest friendship with your big.

No matter what, your friendship with your big is the best one you will cherish in college. There is no better friend than a big. It is your big. It is the one person you love most.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
