What it is really like growing up with sisters.

The Ups And Downs Of Growing Up With Sisters

Sisters are great, but sometimes they can be a pain. It doesn't matter the age or the stage; they always know how to push your buttons. However, they also know how to be there for you and put a smile on your face and you don't know what you would do without them.

Clothing:

Growing up with a lot of sisters meant a ton of matching outfits when you were little. As you grew older, it equated to the vast majority of your clothing being hand-me-downs. This can easily be summarized with the phrase, "the good, the bad, and the ugly." There were some outfits that you couldn't wait to be yours, but most of them were barely bearable to wear and you only wore them because you had no choice. Then there were the few that were so outdated by the time they reached you that they hid in the back of the closet because your parents refused to give something away if it still fit someone.

As you grew older and all started wearing the same size, the struggle of hand-me-downs became the struggle of stealing each other's clothes. Not being able to wear what you wanted to because your sister took (and in some cases ruined) it was nearly a daily occurrence.

Now, as a broke college student, you couldn't be more appreciative of hand-me-downs from your older sisters. They are feee, cute, and a lot more in style than the hand-me-downs you were given growing up. What more could a girl ask for?

Playdates:

Growing up with a lot of sisters meant you always had someone to play with. This made it that much harder to have a friend over because you could just "play with your sisters." It also meant that there was always someone to "accidentally" break your favorite doll or latest Lego creation. (Remind me again how you accidentally decapitate your sister's favorite doll?) Most of the time, though, they were great to have around and accompany you on countless adventures.

Punishments:

Growing up with a lot of sisters is kind of like growing up in a small classroom: Sometimes one person has to take one for the class in order to keep everyone from losing recess. You may still be a little salty from all of the times you had to take for the team and fess up to something you didn't do or those times all of you were punished for something not all of you did. However, it was during those times that you all bonded the most. Remember when your parents tried to separate you all in different rooms as a punishment, but you still found ways to communicate with each other by talking through the air vents? (Things kids growing up with phones will never need to experience...)

While growing up with sisters had its frustrating moments, now that you are all (mostly) grown up, you are glad to have those memories to look back on. While there still may be a fair amount of arguments and clothes-stealing, you couldn't be more grateful for the lovely ladies that will always have your back.

"People come and go, friends change like the weather, but I know my sister is here forever."

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
