What It's Like Growing Up With An Older Brother

Growing up wouldn't have been the same without your older brother.

Older brother's are always a pain. They get in your business, scare boys away and make sure you don't forget your awkward stages in life. People don't understand what you learn from having a big brother though...

1. He teaches you to keep fighting.

It's not easy to get back up from something, but your older brother is always there to help. You're his younger sister and he doesn't like seeing you fail. Your brother wants you to succeed and if that means helping you out, he does. You also get to see his challenges in life and you learn from his reactions to his own problems. Watching him teaches you that if you fall, keep fighting.

2. When he says no to a boy, he's probably right about him.

You don't realize it at first but they scare away the boys that aren't worth your time. Older brothers just have this sixth sense. They know the bad guys from the good guys. You might not like it, or understand it when they say to you, "I don't like this guy. He's not worth it." But they have your best interest at heart and all they want is for you to be happy. So I would recommend listening to him even if you don't want to.

3. He makes you stronger.

Yeah he messes with you and sometimes makes you cry, but he is just giving you a tougher skin. When having an older brother, you learn not to be a wuss. He makes you a strong person on both the inside and the outside. You don't take crap from other people because you always got crap from him.

4. You have a bodyguard wherever you go.

Just know that wherever you are, a bodyguard is not far from you. No matter where you go, your brother somehow has a friend that's close by that is ready to help you if your brother can't. If a guy is messing with you two states away from where your brother is, no problem, his buddy that is close by is on the way to take care of the situation. You might not be thankful for it when you're in high school, but you realize that instead of growing up with one brother, you grow up with a whole lot of them and I think that might just be better.

5. Don't be lazy, work hard in life.

He makes sure you get your life in check. Yes, it is okay to have fun but when you aren't doing well either in school, or with a job, he tells you to stop being lazy. Your older brother teaches you that you have to work for everything in life. Yeah he's there to help you but he is also there to teach you to work for what you want and helps you get ready to go out on your own and succeed. He just wants you to have a great life.

6. He loves you unconditionally.

You are his sister. No matter what happens in life he is always there for you. He cares about you and just wants you to have a great life. It's as simple as this, you always have someone in your corner when you have an older brother.

There are definitely rough times when growing up with an older brother. You don't realize it when you are younger, but your older brother is one guy that will never leave your side. He supports you in everything you do and nobody else will cheer you on quite like your brother. So to every girl with an older brother, know that your older brother is a gift that you were given and never take it for granted.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
