Growing up, I have always tried to be a helpful person. At 10 years old, I would be the last one in line to ski down the mountain so that I could help anyone if they fell. However, after going to college, I really dove head first into the "Mom" role... And it has definitely been an interesting experience for me. Please allow me to tell you just a few of my responsibilities as "Mom":
I am everyone's personal therapist:
I always have to keep extra tissues in stock, along with always having my shoulder available to cry on. College can be stressful and sometimes people just need to cry it out. I have heard girl problems, boy problems, homework problems... just about everything that could be bothering someone. Therefore, my door is always open to talk about anything under the sun and I will try to best to help in any way I can.
I am also a personal stylist for various events:
From picking out what dress goes best with these shoes and what nail color will match, to doing hair and makeup before a night out, to sewing, I have done it all. I am the one to make sure you straightened your hair completely (and I'll sit with you and brush out the knots in your hair even if it takes an entire hour), and make sure your eyeshadow is even, I'll even paint your nails (and probably get upset when you mess them up). I'll be your seamstress for holes in sweatshirts, rips in leggings, or hems in dress pants, I have sewed them all and have tried my best to make them like new.
I have all of my "kids" locations on Find My Friends:
You never know when you are going to lose a kid next (or when they are going to lose a phone next). Or maybe they need you to tell them how long it will take them to get home. Therefore, we have our locations shared between each other so we can always know where we are. Honestly, this one is super convenient to have on hand.
I am always here to teach life lessons:
Some lessons are as simple as how to do laundry and explaining why lights and darks get separated or why not all things go in the dryer. Some lessons don't always stick such as, "back up your project in more than one place", which sometimes causes the tissues to be broken out.
I'll be your personal Doctor/Pharmacist:
Whether or not you need a band-aid or ibuprofen, I'll break out my medkit and make sure to fix you up. I'll even take your temperature or tell you what sickness you probably have and how to take care of yourself. I'm definitely not a doctor, so I'll also probably tell you to get some real medical advice, but I can take care of you for the time being. Nursing people back to health is definitely a major part of my role (mostly on the weekends if you catch my drift).
And I will always be here for you:
I am a very easy-going person and I am incredibly forgiving. Therefore, I am literally always there for people to talk to. I am overly familiar with hearing "Mom!" being called, as I instantly rush into action. Keep me on speed dial and I will pick you up at all hours of the night and I'll make sure you get home safely and have a bed to sleep in. There's no need to repay me, I'm a happy mom when my kids are happy, healthy, and home.
So here's to my "kids" at school, I love you all and thank you for making my first-semester one to remember, even if some nights were exhausting and semi-torturous. You are some of the best people I know, so thank you for always being you.
Love, Mom
