What It's Like Being A Style Guru At CollegeFashionista
CollegeFashionista

This past summer semester I had an awesome opportunity to be a Style Guru For CollegeFashionista. Style Gurus are also known as Social Meda Interns. During this summer I have had a lot of questions most of them along the lines asking, "What is it like to be a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista?" I honestly could answer that question in one word. That word would be...

But I think that one word does not really do this internship justice. There is so much more to this internship than just one word. CollegeFashionista has been an awesome opportunity to me, a great opportunity to many others and will serve as a great opportunity to future Style Gurus.

Here is the reality of what being a CollegeFashionista is like...

It is eye-opening.

Being an intern at CollegeFashionista this past summer opened my eyes to lots of opportunities. These opportunities are from job openings listed on the CollegeFashionista website (and are exclusively for Style Gurus), learning from the pros, opportunities to grow as a writer and a photographer, opportunities to connect with people, and opportunities to build up my skills for a job in the future.

It is Educational.

One huge benefit of being a Style Guru is that you get access to learn from the big shots in the fashion industry. During the summer I got to hear podcasts from people who worked as buyers, make-up artists, writers and more. Being a Style Guru is educational because the main task of being a Style Guru is writing monthly articles. Writing articles allows you to research relevant topics, trends and more in the fashion industry.

It is fun.

This one is very self-explanatory, but being a Style Guru is fun. CollegeFashionista provides lots of fun opportunities to have fun and get to know your fellow Style Gurus. During the summer CollegeFashionista started the "CF Clubhouse" in NYC that had guest speakers, yoga, movie nights, makeup sessions, and more. Plus, it's a lot of fun to read articles that you and your fellow StyleGurus wrote.

It creates new friendships.

CollegeFashionista is an amazing place to meet new people who have the same interests as you. On a surface level being a Style Guru has allowed me to gain a lot of Instagram followers, Facebook friends, and LinkedIn connections. Although increasing numbers on social media is nice, what's nicer is the other Style Gurus. All of the Style Gurus I have interacted with are always extremely nice and helpful. If you need someone to help you write an article, help you apply for other internships, your Style Gurus got your back.

So if you're on the fence of whether you want to apply for CollegeFashionista, here's what I have to say, I say, "Do it." Go for it. You never know unless you try. Being a Style Guru has been awesome and I am so excited for the fall and CollegeFashionista has to offer me.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
