Whether it is social media, shopping, texting, or just general web browsing, we are all guilty of using our cell phones throughout any given day . Whether we have the time or not, our phones and what can be accessed on them (virtually anything) become a major component of our lives.
It becomes a lifeline that gives us anxiety when we are away from it as if it was a loved one. I am not saying that this is a personal aspect of my life, but clearly an aspect of many others, just from observation. Walk into any public place, and you will see a number of people glued to their phones. You can even pay attention to those who are not on the phone and there is a good chance they will pick it up within minutes.
Cell phone addiction is more than just being bored; there is an actual science behind it. That does not mean you should take my word for it...but the word of a highly intelligent Silicone Valley Tech Insider. Attached is a video that demonstrates the science behind what is known as "brain hacking." I find this topic incredibly fascinating, and anyone who uses their smart phone even a few times a day should take notes. I am taking notes myself. Tristan Harris, the tech insider being interviewed in this video, says that "Designers are not programming for consumers, they are programming consumers." Take careful notice of what this is saying as you watch the video. The video will say, in many different ways, that designers are creating products within products to continuously hook you to your phone. Tristan even releases a tech secret, stating that Apple will not allow applications (apps) that train you to look at your phone less. This is a topic I can write about for hours, but I want readers to see it from the perspective of the professionals.
