A big, little relationship is something she will cherish for the rest of her life.

Big, little reveal is one of the most exciting milestones of a sorority woman’s journey. Because it is big, little season I have done some personal reflecting on my Delta Gamma experience. I joined Delta Gamma when I was a freshman, and that is when I got my big. Last year, I picked up a little and my big became a grand big (aka "G-big"). I haven’t quite processed the fact that my little recently just took a little, for it means I am now a grand big.

My big has been one of the most influential people in my life since coming to SDSU. I genuinely do not know where I would be today without the constant love and support my big gives me on a daily basis.

Being a big means not only being a best friend, but also a role model, mentor and the big sister she never had. It means providing guidance, being honest and serving as a support system when she needs it the most. Being a big also means being a shoulder to cry on, especially during venting sessions when boys are acting dumb. She even has a motto that has caught on to my sorority: BRL. The acronym stands for "boys ruin lives" because indeed, boys do sometimes ruin our lives. On a serious note, being a big is a commitment to their little to be a champion in their absence, and a friend always.

In regards to providing guidance, my big has done this in multiple aspects of my life, especially throughout my college experience. As a first year student I wanted to be as involved as I could. My big inspired me to run for a position in Delta Gamma and I can confidently say that I have exponentially grown as a leader and a young adult because of my current position. She has also encouraged me to join other student organizations on campus that have truly shaped my time here at San Diego State University.

I am so incredibly blessed to have the big that I do, and I hope that I have made an impact on my little’s life in the same way she has made mine. The big, little relationship is truly something special, and something i wouldn’t trade for the world.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
