Having a best friend is one of the most amazing things in the world. A best friend is someone who truly accepts you and knows you like no other and that friendship is more precious than any buried treasure. However, there are times when life gets in the way and that friendship can suffer because of the stresses and unexpected occurrences that life may bring. When this shift in a friendship happens, it is not easy. There could be a lack of communication when life becomes especially stressful, hectic, and busy and it is in those moments you realize how much you miss your best friend.
At first, you’re nervous as heck to see them. It’s been so long and you’re worried that you won’t have anything to talk about. You are so worried that whatever was holding your friendship together will be gone. You think about all of the happy memories the two of you had and pray that your friendship did not suffer too much because of that new job you took, the distance between you two or whatever it was that is now resulting in this reunion. Despite all of the nerves though, you are actually really excited. You think of all the things you want to tell him/her and try to think of how to cram all of those things into this seemingly short reunion while also leaving time for him/her to tell you about his/her life.
When you actually see your best friend, it is like everything is right again in the world and you wonder how you survived your first year of college, that big move, or whatever it was without them. It is like putting a piece of your life back together, that puzzle piece that has been missing for way too long. You pick up right where you left off and spend as much time as possible catching up. The moments you spend reuniting are awkward, hilarious, amazing and sometimes filled with tears.
Finding a best friend can be rare, but when you find that person, who knows you inside and out and is always there for you no matter what, cherish that person. Life may get in the way and cause this friendship to change. Sometimes, the friendship suffers so much that it ends and is never really resolved. But if the friendship can be saved and you can reunite with your best friend, do it. Yes, it can be awkward and it might be a bit nerve-wracking but it is so worth it. It is worth seeing your best friend to try to make up for lost time. It is worth hearing their triumphs and tribulations because they will listen to yours. It is worth seeing them and how they have grown. A best friend is not always easy to come by and perhaps all it may take to fix whatever distance there is between you two is a moment to reunite.
