The day I got my license screamed freedom, but the day I got my very first car was real freedom. I had been waiting for this day my entire life, where I would no longer have to wait for my parents to drive to me the mall, a friend's house, and practice. Although, I didn't realize how many "friends" I would make out of it. Being the first person in my friend group to get their license and car came with more cons than I ever imagined. I felt like I became a "mom." Of course, I didn't mind giving my friends rides if they needed one, but there comes a certain point when enough is enough.
I would receive daily texts saying "Hey, want to go out for lunch?" or "Would you mind picking me up in the morning for school?" For some reason I would always say yes, even though I knew I was being taking advantage of. Looking back now and seeing the people I would drive around who were so-called my "friends" is surely amusing, considering once they got a car or after I graduated from high school, I never saw them again and they never stepped foot in my car again.
Here are a few pros and cons of having friends while driving or owning a car.
