Is there a certain place or environment that you are drawn to for some reason or another? A place you feel connected with? A place or environment that puts you at ease or brings about joy and happiness?
Maybe that certain place for you is the beach where you have your toes dug in the sand as you watch the sun set over the calming waves of the ocean. Maybe that place is a library where you are nose deep in a book fantasizing about how it would be like if you were the main character of the novel.
How about in your home recording studio where you find yourself vibing out as you craft some killer beats? Or maybe it's somewhere deep in nature where you are kicked back and relaxing in a hammock as you ponder about life and all its meaning.
Some of us, while reading this, will immediately begin to picture our personal sense of place. For me, it tends to be somewhere lost in nature taking in the simpler pleasures of existence. Some of us may have never really labeled something as their sense of place and yet still have a certain place come to mind, a place we may feel some sort of connection to. Some of us, however, may have trouble figuring out what that certain place is and that is completely okay.
If you are one of those people that aren't sure what your sense of place is, think about what you are passionate about, things you enjoy. Your sense of place doesn't actually have to be a specific or actual place. A sense of place could be a certain act or field such as volunteering or teaching.
A sense of place will vary from one person to another. Whatever your sense of place is I encourage you all to find it and acknowledge it. I encourage this because I feel that it'll benefit you in a number of ways. First of all, finding what your sense of place is may give you a better understanding as to what your interests are. You might even find that you are drawn to something that you never realized that you were to before. As a result, your sense of place may help you realize what it is you want to do with your life--what career you wish to get into. If your sense of place deals with libraries and books you might be interested in becoming a writer and/or editor of some sort. If your sense of place deals with nature and the outdoors you might be interested in becoming a marine biologist or archaeologist. I'm not saying your sense of place will tell you exactly what it is you will do with your life but it may help you realize in which direction you should go.
At the least, your sense of place will be somewhere or something that means a great deal to you. It'll be somewhere or something you can go or do that'll bring you joy and happiness. It'll be somewhere or something you can go or do to bring you back to your senses or bring you back to your intended path.
Whatever you sense of place is, I hope that you find it and acknowledge. I even hope that you share it with others as it may help others find their personal sense of place. At the least, the act of sharing what your sense of place is may encourage deep conversation amongst one another and foster relationships as well.
