Christmas is losing its meaning. I remember Christmas used to be about families being able to spend time recognizing the true meaning together and people were happy to go out shopping, unfortunately this is rarely the case anymore.
It's become a time crunch to get everything done. Thus, parking spaces are fought over at the mall, cashiers are grumpy dealing with the everyone, and people are just flat out rude to each other in the stores.
Maybe I've just become more aware of it since I'm older, but I can personally say this: I've been out shopping twice with my mom and have gotten cut off at least 6 different times and a couple of those times I was not even going for the spot. I've had my money thrown back at me by cashiers in a couple stores, and I've only had one or two pleasant encounters with other shoppers. Why is this?
Is Christmas meaningless? Do we forget the reason we're celebrating? As Christians we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Presents, Santa, and lights are a fun way to celebrate the season, but we mustn't forget why these things mean what they do. We have received THE biggest blessing of them all. Nothing can top what we already have, no amount of earthly treasures can come close to comparing to the true reason behind the Christmas season.
I urge everyone to remember this as you go out and shop or spend time with your families. Have a cheerful attitude because in all honesty, no shopping has to be done because we have all we need in Him.
