I don't think I have ever heard a saying so much in my life. "The Struggle is real," with anything the struggle is always real. I would just like to know exactly what the struggle is, and why is it so real. Where did the struggle come from, and what made it so real. If reality is really starting to become more relate-able, or is every day life becoming harder, a real struggle.
Miriam Webster Dictionary defines a struggle as, "To make strenuous or violent efforts in the face of difficulties or opposition with the problem." "To proceed with difficulty or with great effort." A definition I don't really feel as relate-able as the Urban Dictionary definition which defines as, "Anybody on the grind. Anybody who is going through physical and emotional struggles on a daily basis." Now THAT is a definition I can relate too.
When I was preparing to write this article, I had asked my closest friends, because they are the ones who are most honest with me, to give me a good answer as to what they related to as what the struggle was, and what made it so real. First, I got laughed at, Then it was the shortest, yet straight forward answer. "There are too many to list," or "I could go on forever." Then, it started the struggles started flowing in. You almost forget how, in your struggles, there are the same people out there in the same boat, rowing up the same river as you.
That, there is a Personal struggle, to be the person who your parents want you to be. To be the epidomy of the successful adult your family wants you to become. That being on your own, slaps you in the face. Needing to stay on top of your responsibilities, paying bills, but still being able to have a life afterwards.. even if you have 10 dollars to your name for two weeks. too.. well really personal struggles like, wanting to eat everything in site, and not wanting to get fat, or not being able to fall asleep at night but having to get up early the next day, or that one time you binged watched an entire season of a show on netflix but then had to wait a really long time for the next season to be put up, or that time you had an argument, and hours later, you think of the most genius point ever to make, but in the time, you could'nt come up with a single good point to make. Even to some, "The struggle" aren't even real struggles at all, like some sort of comedic relief from real life.
What is it that makes the struggle so real? is it because you are relating to it? because others can relate too it? To me, what makes it so real, is that its my reality. This is happening to me, maybe every day, maybe every now and then or every two weeks. It is my reality, and others reality around me. That the "struggles" can be the little annoyances in life that makes all of the bigger things see just a little less stressful. It could be the severity of the issue, how its received, and if it effects others around you. Something that could become someone elses' reality.
All in all, The Struggle, really is real.
