My Perfect 'Beach Body' Is Just My Body, Nothing More, Nothing Less

It shouldn't matter what size I am or what I choose to wear to the beach.

With summer approaching, there always seems to be an influx of articles discussing one way or another what body types should be wearing what clothing and what the style trends will be for the upcoming season. Usually, such pieces spout nonsense like if you're over a certain weight, you shouldn't rock a skimpy bikini on your way to the beach, or that "hip cleavage" is going to be the summer's next hot thing.

Accompanied by these, in recent years, have been a slew of articles arguing against these ideas and pointing out their flaws and the way they attempt to shame women and their bodies by insisting that there's a certain way they need to look in order to be accepted.

While I completely agreeing that the shaming and defining needs to end, I find issue with articles that claim this. They all vehemently argue that "bigger" bodies are just as beautiful as "smaller" ones and that clothing can be flattering on any shape of body — I agree with that, too. But I think a big chunk of what truly matters here is missing. What I want to focus on is not weight or really the way someone looks — I don't want to think about appearances at all.

All that matters is that we all have living, breathing bodies and that is so incredibly beautiful within itself.

We often forget that we are so, so blessed to just be alive. We have been given an opportunity to experience life and all that it has to offer, so we should be making the most out of it. It doesn't matter what you wear or how you want others to look at you because of it; it's not a competition of privileging certain body types over others. What matters is that we are here and that we are even able to slap on a swimsuit and go dig our toes in the sand.

I wish the world would stop constantly caring about what is right and what is wrong for a moment and pause long enough to feel the sun on your skin.

If you are privileged enough to spend a day at the beach every once in a while, or at least privileged enough to write a piece about what someone should wear, then you are wasting your time not appreciating how amazing it is for you to be able to do those things. Life is too short for something so trivial to be squawked over.

All bodies are great.

All bodies are beautiful.

Life is an amazing, wild thing if you take the time to think about it.

Let's quit talking about appearances, and start focusing on experiences. Things are more enjoyable that way.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
