What Is The Difference Between Atlanta, GA And Boone, NC?

1. Cars

In Atlanta, we have our cars all the time so we can drive everywhere and rely on them to get us to work or school. However, in Boone, you actually have to rely on the Applacart bus system or walk everywhere. Walking everywhere does help humans to be healthy and live longer; however, it gets annoying waiting for the bus in the pouring rain or having to wait for a second route to the State Farm lot because so many people want to go there also.

2. Shopping

In Atlanta, the women who live there love to shop because there are multiple malls in the city and they have a ton of options to choose from. In Boone, you have some small boutiques on King Street, Wal-Mart, Michael’s, Belk and a couple other stores. However, in Atlanta you have Phipps Plaza, Lenox Square Mall, Atlantic Station, Underground Atlanta, The Shops Buckhead Atlanta, Perimeter Mall, Mall of Georgia and a ton of more options of other malls and boutiques.

3. The Views

In Atlanta, there are skyscrapers all over the place and in Boone, the only views are of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.

4. Nature

In Atlanta, you have to go to a park or Lake Lanier to enjoy nature whereas in Boone you have nature all around you every minute of the day. Everyone should visit Boone, NC at least once in his or her lifetime.

5. Safeness

In Atlanta, there is crime almost nonstop. Atlanta is the eighth most dangerous city after Detroit, MI, Memphis, TN, Oakland, CA, St. Louis, MO, Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, and Baltimore, MD. However, Boone, NC is the nineteenth safest place to live in North Carolina.

6. Snow

During the winter in Boone, there is actual snow. In Atlanta, there is normally not a lot of snow per year and everything is shut down if there is an inch of snow. However, in Boone rarely does anything shut down due to an inch of snow.

7. Average Temperature

The average temperature in Atlanta is 89.4 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months and the average temperature during the winter is 56.4 degrees Fahrenheit. However, in Boone the average temperature during the summer months is 78 degrees Fahrenheit and in the winter is 49 degrees Fahrenheit.

8. Sports

In Atlanta, they have many professional sport teams such as the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Dream, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, other smaller professional teams such as the Gwinnett Braves and the Gwinnett Gladiators, and multiple college sport teams. Whereas in Boone, they only have the Appalachian State University's sport teams.

9. Famous People

The town of Boone, NC is named after the famous pioneer and explorer Daniel Boone. However, Atlanta is the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr., the leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. Atlanta is also the home of the singer Usher, Rapper Ludacris, Actress Raven-Symoné, Rapper Lil Jon, Rapper Big Boi, TV personality Ryan Seacrest and many others.

10. Playing Pokémon

In Atlanta, there are so many Pokémon that you can catch because Atlanta has so many people that live there. These people hatch Pokémon and since there are so many people, there are many ways for you to earn points. However, in Boone you have to take time to search for Pokémon so you can catch them. The good thing about living in a rural place is that the Pokémon stay there for some time because there are not as many people playing the game as in a big city whereas there are multiple people that play Pokémon in the same block as you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
