What is She Thinking?

Behind the Scenes of a Theologeek's Life

What is She Thinking?
Ana Plumlee

Many walk by me throughout the day and wonder what is going through my head, especially those people who know that I am a Theology major. There are actually only two of us that I know about here at NDC who are majoring in the subject, and I am the only one who lives on campus, so a lot of the time, I'm separated from the campus community as a whole in a way. So, if you've every wondered what's going through my head...you're about to find out.

Thoughts during class:

1. I have no clue what this professor is talking about...I think I'll google this topic later so I understand it better.

2. Seriously? We're going over what Theology is again?

3. Why do I have to take this class? This has nothing to do with my major.

4. If the professor calls on me I might give an answer that's too theologically dense.

5. Ugh, all of the heresy.

6.Wait, this is an English class? I though that gerunds were some kind of heresy!

7. I should totally live tweet this class one day.

Thoughts when doing homework:

1. I've written five drafts of this research paper. I think I'm good and there's no heresy in it.

2. I don't think I can stand much more of this theological text.

3 .Formatting this paper is a pain in the neck. It's a paper. Why does it have to be more difficult that it already is?

4. What should I use to make this paper longer? One word: footnotes.

5. One corgi video won't hurt...

6. Crap, I've been watching corgi videos for 4 hours and the paper's due tomorrow morning.

7. I need a Monster to get through the night/today...

Thoughts in my free time:

1. What is free time?

2. What does it mean to be free?

3. How did I get here?

4. What's good on Netflix?

5. Would my friends be able to hang out with me now?

6. Oh, friends...I don't have many of those...

7. Oh my gosh...my professor just asked me to edit something for him.

Thoughts when I'm ready to sleep:

1. What's the hypostatic union again?

2. Why are we alive? Did God create me for a purpose?

3. I really should finish reading that encyclical.

4. Just a few more pages.

5. I need to email that professor.

6. Do I have a paper due tomorrow?

7. Dear Lord, let me sleep.

Those are just a few things I'm thinking. If you want to know what's behind this sometimes stoic face, just ask! Trust me, I'm nicer than my walking to class face implies.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
