If you watch the news you have probably seen multiple stories about bodies being found in bodies of water like the Charles river. These occurrences are happening way too often. According to the Boston Globe, in the past 7 years more than 12 bodies have been recovered for waterways in the area and another body was just recovered this past week. Lots of these cases also have things in common. Many community members suspect a possible serial killer. The police commissioner of Boston says otherwise. None of these cases have been suspected to involve foul play but let's see what you think.

1. John Daverio

A 49 year old teacher who was last seen leaving the BU campus on March 16, 2003 around 8:30 pm. After being missing for over a month his body was discovered in the Charles river. No foul play was suspected although his death has yet to be explained.

2. Dustin Willis

A 26 year old man in the navy whose ship docked for the Saint Patrick's day parade in Boston on March 16, 2007. After going out to the pub in Quincy market with some friends Dustin was no where to be found around 11 pm that night. Dustin's phone was recovered at about 1 am near the Long Wharf and his body was discovered a few days later only steps away. Police believed due to alcohol consumption and blizzard like conditions he had become disoriented and slipped into the water.

3. William Hurley

A navy sailor who had recently moved to Boston with his girlfriend. On October 8th, 2009 he attended a Bruins game with a friend. After the first quarter and a few drinks he decided he was tired and wanted to go home. His girlfriend was on her way to get him when he informed her of his destination and that his phone was about to die. William ended up being no where to be found and only a smashed phone was a recovered. A week later Williams body was found just a few feet from the shore in the near by Charles River. The body seemed to have been in the water for a couple of days but William was actually missing for over a week.

4. Eugene Losik

25 years old living in Lawrence with his girlfriend. Eugene was out celebrating a friend's birthday on February 20, 2010. After a long night of partying Eugene was caught on video exiting the group's hotel out the backdoor at 2:24 am. He was making his way into Christopher Columbus park. Friends believed he was relatively sober and stepping out for a cigarette. When Eugene never returned police started searching. 9 months later Gene's body was found in the Boston Harbor. Drowning forensics indicated the body should have surfaced sooner so it's unknown why it took so long to find.

5. David Mark

A young man who had diabetes and Aspergers went missing at the age of 24. On March 2, 2011 David left his home in Albany to drive to Boston where his sister lived. David stopped to eat and have a drink at Boston Beer Works near Fenway but never showed up at his sister's house or returned home. His car was found several days later near by and his body was located March 8 in the Chelsea River. Police said there were no signs of trauma.

6. Franco Garcia

Grew up in West Newton, a full time night school student at BC and full time CVS pharmacy worker. On February 21, 2012 at the age of 21 Franco was out with friends at Mary Ann's Bar in Cleveland Circle. Friends ended up losing sight of Franco even though his jacket and keys were still in the bar. At 12:18 he was seen on camera heading towards the Chestnut Hill Reservoir where his car was parked. A few months later Franco's body was spotted in the weeds offshore of the reservoir. Police described his death as an accidental fall into the water even though he wasn't found in there previously.

7. Johnathan Dailey

A 23 year old attending a grad program at Boston Architectural College was taking the semester off due to finances. On October 2, 2012 he hung out with his roommate and had pizza until about 9. When his roommate woke up the next morning Johnathan was gone. Everything was left behind besides his phone. A week later his body was found in the Charles River. He was tied with chains to cinder blocks. Police assured there was no threat to the public and it was ruled a suicide. He had no history of mental illness.

8. Eric Munsell

Went to school in Boston and was working there as well. On February 8, 2014 Eric was celebrating his 24th birthday at the Market Lounge. He was escorted out by a bouncer around 11:30 pm for causing a disturbance. Eric's phone was pinged going near the harbor and he was caught on camera near the Long Wharf. A few months later Eric's body was found in the water near the Long Wharf. Police did not expect his death to be suspicious.

9. Josue Quispe- Almendro

Only 18 when he went missing Josue was out running errands with his brother on October 17, 2015. He dropped him off at Bed Bath and Beyond in Somerville at about 4:30 pm and failed to return home or answer calls. His car was found the next day in Quincy. His body washed up on a beach in Plymouth a month later and his cause of death was not released but no foul play was suspected even though it's unknown how he got to Plymouth.

10. Dennis Njoroge

Attending Northeastern and just 21 years old. Dennis was playing basketball on November 29, 2015. The following day he also spoke to his mother on the phone normally. Dennis did not ended up showing up to class. The following month Dennis' body was discovered in the Charles River directly across from the MIT campus where his phone was last pinged. The police investigated this death as a non-homicide.

11. Zachary Marr

Zachary Marr was celebrating his 22nd birthday with his cousins on February 13, 2016. He went outside for a cigarette and proceeded to Snapchat his cousin that they would not let him back in and they should leave. According to the bouncer, Zach never asked to come back in. He was caught on camera walking past the Boston Market heading towards the Zakim Bridge. According to police footage (which has not been released) showed Zachary entering the water under the Zakim. No body was found there. About a month later his body was discovered in the water near the Museum of Science Boston. These areas were previously searched.

12. Michael Kelleher

On March 29, 2016, Kelleher was attending a Boston Celtics game and was last seen leaving TD Garden after the game ended. About a month later Kelleher's body was found in the Charles River.

There are many circulating theories about what happened to each of these men and why young men are dying and ending up in or around the Charles River so often. Many citizens of Boston believe there is a serial killer to blame. All of these situations appear to include facts that are common in many ways but just don't add up. The authorities have ultimately shut down this theory and believe young men have been getting drunk and ending up in the river. No matter what is actually occurring hopefully something will be done about it so no more lives are lost in such a tragic way.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
